Last night, it was reported of the trade request by New York Islanders defenseman Travis Hamonic.
It is a surprise call by a young potent defenseman whom could improve from a top-4 to maybe a poor man's top-2 d-man. The apparent list includes Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver.
The Manitoba native's reasoning for the trade is family reasons, so nothing should be taken away from his value, and team that is willing to help him deserves a lot of credit, no matter how badly this makes the Islanders look or the ordeal of his problem.
In terms of the list, Edmonton needs an upgrade on the blue line, and he does make sense, even though this may put Justin Schultz into doubt. My feel is in a return, some salary may be moved back- whether it is Nikita Nikitin, Ben Scrivens, or Mark Fayne.
In Calgary, they already have a strong defense core, but their struggles are in net. If Jonas Hiller is involved or Karri Ramo, this trade may make a little more sense, but what happens to the likes of already available defensemen in Kris Russell and Dennis Wideman, or winger Mason Raymond?
In Vancouver, this trade could work to bring some youth to the defensive group. With Dan Hamihus on the final year of his deal, could this make some sense?
In Winnipeg, this defensive group has three amazing right handed shot defenseman- Dustin Byfuglien, Jacob Trouba, and Tyler Myers. Trouba isn't going anywhere because he is the future of the Jets' defense. They just acquired Tyler Myers, so I don't think he's going anywhere. Big Buff is in the final year of his deal, and if he gets moved and accepts a move to the Island, wow! This islanders team would be really tough to play against.
In terms of the Columbus aspect, he is a top-4 defenseman that could be acquired at the right cost. The Islanders are apparently looking for prospects or draft picks, so does someone like Cam Atkinson or recently scratched Fedor Tyutin make sense? Would he fit well alongside Jack Johnson or Ryan Murray?
Also breaking overnight, the Columbus Blue Jackets have announced that Jared Boll was placed on IR with an upper-body injury, meaning he will be out at least a week. It is believed he sustained it during the course of his 500th NHL game Tuesday against St. Louis. As a result, Michael Chaput was recalled from Lake Erie (AHL). Also, Josh Anderson was recalled from the Mosnters as well, so Torts has some extra players to work with until a couple of these players return- Brandon Dubinsky, David Clarkson, Alex Wennberg, and Jared Boll.
More to come later, as Columbus plays tonight and tomorrow....
Usually, these matches held in New York and people like to join and watch the hockey matches. Some writers help me write my essay on this topic because I don't have much knowledge about sports so that's the right way for me.
