The Columbus Blue Jackets and defenseman Ryan Murray have agreed to a two year bridge deal, worth about $5.65 million. The news broke last evening courtesy of TheFourthPeriod and TheHockeyNews.
His new contact shows that the team is committed to him, but are not ready to pay him a big salary just yet.
Murray was drafted second overall by the Jackets in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, and has struggled to stay healthy every year but this year. His good health and performance this year helped him get over $2.5 million per season. He is second on the team in points for a defenseman (17).
If he performs as well as he did this season, and alongside Seth Jones, both will have lucrative contracts one day. The other big question to look at with his new contract is if this sets the price for Seth Jones. How much should Jones be paid?
What are your thoughts on the contract? More to come…
