The Rangers scored with 2:19 left in the first period, and it came from Mats Zuccarello. The goal was Zucc's 21st of the season. Dan Boyle got a helper on the goal. With 2:48 remaining in the game, Derek Stepan scored a highlight reel goal on Joonas Korpisalo. Stepan's goal was a shorthanded one, and it was his 14th of the season. Ryan McDonagh poke checked the puck between Jones and Dubinsky to spring Stepan on a breakaway. The goal scorer moved first and Joonas Korpisalo fell down while attempting make a save, but the Rangers forward best him upstairs. Antti Raanta was in between the pipes for the Rangers, and stopped 26 of 27 Blue Jacket shots for a 0.963 save percentage (96.3%).
It was a quiet evening for the Blue Jackets. David Clarkson and Jared Boll returned to the lineup for the Jackets, and it helped set a tone early on. In the second period, Jared Boll dropped the gloves with Dylan McIlrath, who played forward last night, even though he is a defenseman. The Jackets lone goal came from Cam Atkinson in the final frame. Atkinson's unassisted goal was his 20th season. Camsanity's goal was a rebounder if Raanta that took so extra stick work to complete. Joonas Korpisalo stopped 21 of 23 Ranger shots for a 0.913 save percentage (91.3%).
