Rivalry night has arrived for Columbus fans when they take on the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins come to Ohio's state capital in a fight for their playoff lives as the Wings and Flyers are collecting points.
There is drama headed into this game on both sides. Earlier this week, former Blue Jacket and current Penguin Tom Sesito called out Brandon Dubinsky because of his past actions against the team. Sesito basically said that if Duber went after Sidney Crosby, that he was going after Dubinsky.
It has been a while since these teams met, and the Penguins made several moves at the deadline. The Pens made two trades with the Coyotes, involving Sergei Plotkniov going to Glendale and former Penguin Dustin Jeffery returning to Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh also acquired defenseman Justin Schultz from the Edmonton Oilers for a 3rd round pick.
Here is the season series and a look back at the game results- CBJ leads the series 2-1.
On Friday, November 13, 2015, the Jackets defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins by a final score of 2-1 in regulation. For the Pens, fiesty winger Patric Hornqvist scored their only goal in the final minute of the game. For the Jackets, Brandon Saad (my player to watch) and Scott Hartnell scored the goals. Other players that got points include Nick Foligno, Ryan Murray, and Cody Goloubef. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 29 of 30 for a 0.966 save percentage (96.6%).
On Friday, November 27, 2015, in Pittsburgh, there was an incident in the second period between Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and Blue Jackets alternate captain Brandon Dubinsky.
During the incident, Dubinsky and Crosby were in front of the Penguins goalie. Dubinsky was playing the man and was trying to create space for himself to score a goal, and Crosby was putting pressure on him.
Dubinsky ended up cross-checking Crosby in the back of the net, which resulted in Crosby spilling onto the ice. Once down, Dubinsky cross-checked him again, and his stick broke.
The last time these two teams played on December 21st, 2015, and Pittsburgh won 5-2. Evgeni Malkin and Phil Kessel each had two goals; and David Warsofsky (NJD) had the other. Columbus got goals from Boone Jenner and Alex Wennberg.
