The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced that defenseman Seth Jones will be out for three weeks a hairline fracture in his foot.
The injury came in the game Saturday night against the St. Louis Blues. Per Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch:
"#CBJ D Seth Jones out three weeks w a hairline fracture in a foot."
"#CBJ Seth Jones said a tie-up in front of the net with #StLBlues Berglund led to fracture of right foot."
"Berglund's skate blade cut through Jones' skate - the laces and tongue - and cut his foot, fractured a bone. #CBJ #StLBlues"
"Jones did not remove his skate for fear of his foot swelling so bad he couldn't put it back in. #hockeyplayers #CBJ"
"By end of game, #CBJ Jones said there was blood seeping through his laces."
Jones is a valuable defenseman to the team and is out until after American Thanksgiving. Jones has been the top right pairing defenseman for Columbus, giving more time for the secondary guys to step up.
Ryan Murray may need the extra ice time after missing some time earlier in the season, but Werenski has made him a solid number three defenseman on this team.
David Savard and Jack Johnson may get more ice time, but expect the rookie to get more than anyone else.
The other thing to look at is whether Scott Harrington or Dalton Prout draw into the lineup. Harrington has yet to play a regular season game for the Blue Jackets, and they gave him up for a gem in Kerby Rychel.
With Jones out, expect more shots on Bobrovsky, and maybe more goals against, which means the offense needs to shine and Bobs and McElhinney need to step up as well for the loss of a top defenseman.
Thought on the Jackets defensive group?
Thoughts on the Seth Jone injury?
