The Columbus Blue Jackets woke up late in the third period to defeat the Washington Capitals by the final score of 2-1 in overtime.
The Capitals opened the scoring in the midst of the second period off a sniping shot from the usual passer in Nicolas Backstrom. The Swedish forward wristed a shot underneath Bobrovsky's glove for a 1-0 lead for the Caps for his second goal of the season. Brooks Orpik and Taylor Chorney had the assists.
Zach Werenski tied the game up at one to one off a cross feed pass from Wild Bill to beat Grubauer upstairs for the rookie's fifth goal of the season. Sam Gagner had the supplemental assist.
Right into overtime, Brandon Dubinsky wins the face off back to Cam Atkinson who snips the game winner over the blocker of Grubauer for his fifth goal of the season.
Phillipp Grubauer was the starter for the Caps, allowing two goals on 27 shots faced for a 0.926 save percentage. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 21 of 22 shots for a 0.955 save percentage.
Before announcing my Three Stars, it was nice to see Scott Harrington finally make his Columbus debut. It was well deserved for the young defenseman.
