CBJ Post-Game No. 22- Mile High Fun
The Columbus Blue Jackets managed to hold on and defeat the Colorado Avalanche, by the final score of 3-2.
The opening goal came just about five minutes into the game. Jack Johnson got the puck at the blue line, made a shot pass to Scott Hartnell, who lost control of it, and Brandon Saad found the puck, and got it last Varlamov for the icebreaker. The goals was his seventh of the season.
Later in the first, Seth Jones recovered a Colorado turnover. Jones, Saad, and Nick Foligno went on a three on one rush. Saad drop passed it to Jones. Jones passed it back to Saad. Saad passed it across to Foligno. The captain's one timer got underneath Varlamov's armpit for a 2-0 Columbus lead.
In the second period, the Avalanche found themselves on a power play. Francois Beauchemin passed the puck over to Eric Johnson. Johnson shot the puck on net. Stopped by Bobrovsky. Blake Comeau bangs it in on the rebound. The former Blue Jacket had his third goal of the season for a 2-1 Columbus lead.
Minutes later, Bobrovsky throws the puck around the boards. Tyson Barrie recovered the puck. He shot the puck on goal, and it was deflected by rookie Samuel Henley. The game was tied at two with his first career NHL goal.
Midway through the third period, Cam Atkinson converted on a wrap around pass to Boone Jenner, who got the puck past Varlamov for the game winning goal. Jenner's goal was his second of the season.
CBJ Post-Game No. 23- Did the Score Show the Result
On Saturday night into Sunday morning, the Columbus Blue Jackets held on to defeat the Arizona Coyotes by the final score of 3-2 in a shootout.
The Blue Jackets opened the scoring just 13 seconds in from a Boone Jenner rebound goal. The goal was Jenner's fourth of the season. Jack Johnson and David Savard had the assists.
One minute into the second period, Radim Vrbata tied the game on a power play. The tiemarker was his eighth this season. Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Anthony DeAngelo had the assists.
The captain came through for the Coyotes to give his team the 2-1 lead. Shane Doan's goal was his third goal this year. Mike Stone had the lone assist on the goal.
In the dying minutes of the game, Alex Wennberg tied the game at 2-2. The Swedish center's goal was his sixth of the season. Brandon Saad and Nick Foligno had the assists.
In the shootout, Cam Atkinson and Sam Gagner converted for the victory for Columbus.
Sergei Bobrovsky got the win, and he stopped 32 of 34 shots in the win. Mike Smith stopped 58 of 60 shots, and none of two in the shootout.
