Can you teach a player to be "smart" ?

One thing has become dreadfully apparent with this Jet team. They have shown an unbelieveable lack of discipline. With 12 penalty kills against Buffalo, the Jets gave the Sabres a gift-wrapped win, especially when your PK is as poor as the Jets" is. They missed an opportunity during this road trip to post a winning record despite having many regulars out of the line up.

Now, the question is, can Claude Noel actually teach these guys how to play smart ? Can he teach them that playing with more effort will keep them from taking the deadly hooking and holding penalties that plague this team.

Everyone talks about the lack of scoring on this team, but what is even more alarming is the penalties. Until such a time comes that this team stops going to the box in regular fashion, it will miss out on being a team that can break through into the playoff picture.
