I can hear what you are thinking right now. "What the hell is this guy talking about ?!!"
Let me explain.
During the summer my wife and I purchased a curio cabinet that was at a yard sale. She had always wanted a curio cabinet and so when she saw how nice it was she just had to have it.
Thing is, it was chalk full of knick-knacks and bawbles that the owner said went with it. We loaded the cabinet into the truck, complete with all the unwanted knick-knacks, and drove it home. Don't get me wrong, some of the knick-knacks were pretty nice, but as for the rest, my wife didn't really care whether we kept them or not.
Do you see where I am going with this ?
If you don't, let me explain.
For all intents and purposes Mark Chipman can be likened to my wife, the curio cabinet to the Jets fanchise, and the knick-knacks to the players on that franchise.
I know its a tremendous simplification, but think about it.......it really is the same idea.
Mark Chipman bought this franchise for just that......the franchise.
He didn't necessarily buy the franchise for the players playing for that franchise, just as my wife didn't purchase the cabinet for the content of it's drawers and shelves.
Now I'm sure that Chipman is happy with a few of his knick-knacks and bawbles but overall he has nothing invested in those various trinkets.
What my wife decided to do was keep a few of the things she liked and sold the rest at a yard sale that we had a few weeks later. She wanted to put her own personal touch on her cabinet.
Don't be surprised at all if Chipman and co. do the exact same thing with their used cabinet and get rid of all the stuff they don't really think fits with what they think their cabinet should look like.
