I came home from work tonight and expected to watch a decent hockey game. To be honest, I didn’t have high hopes for the Sabres tonight. I personally think the Bruins have the best chance at the Cup this season. Don’t get me wrong, I want Buffalo to win every game during the season. And I'm always in one of my many jersey's come game time. But, I’m also a realist, and I know when they have a tough game coming up and I’m not afraid to admit it.
Who saw this coming? I mean, 6-0 over the Bruins?
6-0. I know!!!
I stand by this, I feel the Bruins have one of the best teams in the league, if not the best. I may strongly dislike them and think they’re a dirty team, but they have an excellent system. Plus, they are well balanced and put together 4 strong forward lines, 3 great D pairs, and 2 solid goalies. I don’t agree with Eklund, thinking that the Penguins are the best with Sydney Crosby. Sorry, but Pittsburgh relies on it’s stars, where as Boston relies on everyone. Anyone can deliver on any given night in Boston. Plus, the Bruins defense is simply amazing (not tonight of course). Boston has a great team, there’s no denying it.
Where’s Buffalo? At the bottom of the Eastern Conference, looking up and needing one big hot streak to manage to get into the playoffs. On paper, this shouldn't even be a contest.
Buffalo got a strong win against the Islanders on Saturday, with a great come from behind victory. Tonight, they built on that win, with something even better, and just what the doctor ordered...
Buffalo went up against one of the best in the NHL, and controlled the game for 60 minutes. Buffalo didn’t just win, they
destroyed the Bruins tonight. Boston isn’t known for giving up a ton of goals, and Buffalo netted 6, count ‘em,
SIX tonight. Buffalo just showed that they can go up against one of the best, and dictate the terms of the game over 3 periods.
Buffalo didn’t cave into Boston’s style of play tonight. There was a high level of confidence from the start. Boston plays very aggressively, the Sabres matched it, and very appropriately. Plus, they stood up for each other, and weren’t afraid of dropping the gloves when challenged. Buffalo didn’t go out of their way to hit the Boston players, but did it in a manner so that they didn’t even give the Bruins a power play. They didn’t back down at all. Boston had 20 hits, Buffalo, 18 when all was said and done. Buffalo drove hard to the net and it created great scoring opportunities as well.
The Sabres also frustrated the Bruins all night long. It was obvious as the game progressed, that the Bruins were looking to try and shake up Buffalo’s game, throwing some more hits, and starting a couple fights. The Bruins were clearly frustrated as the night progressed in Buffalo.
The best part, Buffalo didn’t roll over and die in the 3rd period. Yes, they were outshot 17-8 in the 3rd, but the Bruin shots weren’t high quality shots. Buffalo also continued to try and expand their score, and succeeded in making it a 6-0 game. Buffalo’s weakness in the past has been going to sleep, and letting a team crawl back into a game. Tonight, Buffalo continued to take it to the Bruins, and did not back down for 60 minutes.
This was a great win for the Sabres, and may be the best game they’ve played this season. Buffalo just showed that they can dance with the elite teams, and win. Buffalo is getting hot at the right time in the season. Hopefully they can continue to play like they did tonight.
The message to the rest of the league is clear...
Do NOT underestimate the Buffalo Sabres.
Let's Go Buffalo!
Amen Man!
1 game and they can dance with the big boys? Every dog has his day..
They did stick with the Rangers the other night as well, despite losing in the shoot out. Rangers and Boston are the two two teams in the east
Bruins are proving to be the second most overhyped team(Caps are the first) they really are. Rangers will win the SC(and I'm a Lightning fan!)
Did Ruff miss this game due to his ribs?If he did im thinking the Sabers are in need of a coach change..I was just thinking i know Ruff was hurt and think he missed their last game, and didnt they win that one to?So if this is 2 wins in a row with a dif coach at the helm then that says alot to me..Not to mention the last win was a come from behind one if i read the blog correct...Just my 2 cents feel free to slam me or not :P..
At above comment:No this was James Patrick's first night as "head coach". I don't know if lindy is expected back on the bench friday...to be honest...i hope not. Patrick did a phenomenal job with Teppo and Kevyn Adams. I'd hire him.
Lindy was upstairs watching the game and sending feedback. Jeep did a great job behind the bench last night though.
Not the right time of the season to get hot, that was a month ago. However, go Sabres, awesome win, and good read!
One could also view this as the Sabres rallying knowing that their injured coach is watching. I'd have a hard time jumping to any conclusions from this game, whether we're talking coaching or quality of the team.It was a hell of a game though, and that's never a bad thing.
