After a little traffic delay on the I-490, my wife and I have made it home from the Amerks season opener vs the Syracuse Crunch. Needless to say, it was a great game, but there are a lot of concerns regarding the Amerks.

Due to the high amount of traffic coming to the arena (Thanks Gary, thanks for the lock out), we missed the first 3 minutes of the game. Corey Tropp started the scoring 24 seconds in with a great setup from Cody Hodgson. Thanks to the gentleman sitting in section 219 who informed me as to what was going on.

First thing that I picked up on, was that in all my years of going to Rochester Amerks games, this was one of the best crowds I’ve ever seen. The arena was packed, and there were several times when the “Let’s go Amerks!” chant was echoing throughout the arena. As much as the parking situation was rotten prior to the game, it was a great atmosphere. However, still no match for First Niagara Center.

Shortly after we took our seats, Mark Barberio for the Crunch tied the game up on the power play after Cody Hodgson lost a face-off in his own end. Two quick passes and a quick slapper from the point, and it was a 1-1 game. I’ve said it a thousand times, and I’ll say it again, if you can win a face-off in the offensive zone, it leads to a good scoring opportunity. I’d love to see the Amerks/Sabres do this in the future. This set the tone, strap in, you’re in for a good one.

How do you get featured on my hockeybuzz? Are you blowing Eklund?

I have no idea how to be featured. I inquired a year ago, never heard back.

It's too bad Mancari's confidence doesn't transfer to the NHL.

He got crushed coming in over the blue line. Hopefully he's only out a few weeks.
