...what a game! I must admit after Mike Richards' "boarding" call where the guy didn't even hit the boards...and Kukkonen's penalty for pushing players away from Biron...I was a little bit worried that we were headed down penalty road for a repeat of last game's parade to the penalty box...
The Flyer's killed them off though...and despite their obvious frustration with both calls played as hard as they could. Great power play goal by Umberger. It's funny how when Steven's demotes a player they get so fired up that they play out of their minds the next couple games. Upshall is benched for a game, comes back and score in the last two regular seaosn games and has been playing out of his mind in the playoffs...and now Umberger after his 4th line demotion has stepped up and scored in every game this series.
What a relief to see the power play come alive again and I give some credit to the fact that Briere and Prospal got a huge break last game w/ all the PKs, to the return of the screen Mike Knuble, and to the outstanding play of Umberger. I was so pleased to see them cycling ready to strike.
I was expecting some serious production out of Prospal this game. His performance this round (before last night) left something to be desire dand he really made up for it. He had alot more energy and when he rung that one of the crossbar I was so bummed for the split second before Hartnell slammed home the rebound.
Biron was crazy good. So nice to see him playing so confidently and consistently. People were furious after the two goals in 37 seconds. As much as i wanted to throw stuff, I had to admit that Biron was allowed to be human in this game, even if it meant 2 goals in 37 seconds. He didn't have a chance on that first one, and the second, I mean where was the defense?
What a relief to see Begin take such a stupid penalty in the third. Sorry buddy but you were asking for it. No checks by an open bench door. I don't care what team you're on because they will call you every time. It's a dirty play and he deserved that penalty and the power play goal.
Danny Briere to the Rescue...just as the Inquirer's sports page read today. Right place...right time...
The Flyer's power play is back...it's about time.
On the Montreal side of things...
...you missed to many shots. I saw so many shots go wide. I'm not sure what happened but they could have had more chances than they did but they didn't get to pucks fast enough and they didn't hit the target.
...Halak looked good....but help him out! He's the backup so the defense should have been on their A game. Two rebound goals. That's bad.
...dirty play...it's been thrown around alot these playoffs. Mostly at the Flyers...but kneeing a guy with a knee injury after that hit you put on it last game is too far. Montreal really made themselves look bad between that and the hit by the open door on Kapenen. One who didn't know better might think they were trying to injure Umberger because of his obvious success this round. That's pathetic. I don't appreciate the "if you can't beat them, injure them" strategy but with all of Carbonneau's comments this round, it doesn't exactly surprise me.
Here's to the the power play, the return on Knuble, and Umberger's hot streak...and to the Flyer's continuing to capitalize on their opportunities....keep it up.
I didn't see the game but the reports that I've gotten, it seemed like the intent was to injure Umberger.
It's the second time they're gone after his knee and he has scored in every game...it's a little bit shady...
Umberger deserved it! He smiled after scoring a goal! How arrogant!
haha...seriously...he was just asking for an attempt at injury...
Both were definitely dirty plays. I think they are trying to get back at us for Prospal and Hatcher. Watch out for next game to get ugly.
The funny thing is we scored both goals for Montreal. The first one deflected off Hatchers knee and on the second one Jones deflected it right to Koivu. Oh well, we are winning for now.
Never underestimate the power(play) of the dark side! Regarding the knee hit on Umberger...how ironic is it that it was Kovalev...Mr. Dive Sr. (Crosby is Jr.)...who did the dirty work, and got away with it after selling the cheesy knee call on Richards in game 1. Nice Blog!
When was the knee hit on Umberger - i lost some of the game on Versus?
I believe it was about mid third period...but i mean it was clearly intentional...kovalev stuck out his leg...i don't know if he knew it was umberger at the time but he definately did it and they know he has that injury...damn the flyers for releasing his injury area...
