Why Not Us!!!
It’s a great line. Plus, I think its very fitting for this team. From last year to this year one can not argue that its one of the biggest turnarounds in professional sports. Holmgren did a fabulous job revamping the roster and the Flyers for the first time in several years have made it to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Now, we see our beloved team down 3 games to none during this series. It appears that injuries have finally caught up to them. What is left is a bunch of savvy veterans that have a never say die attitude but it’s appearing that is not enough anymore. The breaks the Flyers were getting in the early series and the one Pens have been getting throughout the playoffs are now going directly to the Pens. Which is fine because the Pens should’ve been here sooner rather then later.
Our team was not built by several high draft picks.
Our team was not build with a stud Russian player that is finally getting the talent around him.
Our team is not Canada’s team.
Our team does not have a great mix of European talent that has gelled over the years.
Our team does have a long outstanding American Star who is making what could be a final run to the cup.
Our team was built by decent draft picks, trades and free agency. I for one did not expect them to make the ECF. I still believe they are a year away because of the chemistry that is needed to win in this league. All the experience they are gaining will only help them in the years to come. I would rather have a team built on depth then a team built around a few stars. The Flyers had this and we saw how they became a one/two line team. The blueprint that I see this team copying is Detroit’s with their depth and their chemistry.
Going forward…
I am applauding Jim Dowd because I believe he has played his best hockey in the last half of the year.
I am applauding Kappy because he is still one of the true heart and souls on this team but now I see him at most a 4th line guy.
I am applauding Hatch for coming back and playing on one leg. I truly am amazed no matter what people have to say about his foot speed.
I am applauding Cote in busting his A—each year to become a decent fighter and a heck of hockey player considering he doesn’t spew natural talent.
I can go on and on, but my point is this…
I am proud to where the Flyers have gotten too this year and I’m looking forward to what the future has in store with them. With the salary cap it will interesting to see how this team (I would point out any team) stays together because money talks first not chasing the Cup. The nucleus is here and Mike Richards will be the Captain of the team.
I have not written off my team but it will be a formidable task.
As much as the Flyers are hated throughout the league, I know I am proud to say this is my team through and through.

I think every Flyer fan can be disappointed at not having a better ECF showing thus far but no Flyer fan can be disappointed in this season. This was an exceptional turnaround for a team that many folks had written off as not even getting a sniff of the playoffs. They proved a lot of people wrong and have set themselves up well for the future.
Too bad for the Flyers (and NHL fans) that Timmonen (and then Coburn) went down. I think the Pens were the favorites anyway, but missing Timmonen has proven (so far) to be too much for Philly to overcome. Along with Richards and Biron, Timmonen was a guy they couldn't afford to lose (and if he was going to miss time, why couldn't it have been during the series vs. the Caps !). The Flyers will continue to be tough in the future, but teams like the Habs, Caps and Pens (and maybe the Bruins -- not totally sold on them yet) aren't going away either. This is why you like to see your team seize the moment when they have the chance, because you just don't know what the future holds (injuries, losses to UFA, etc).

I'm so proud of this team and what a great season it was! Holmgren should be executive of the year for orchestrating a remarkable turnaround.
You can thank two former Sabres for getting you this far.
you might as well throw in some predators, some oilers, a king, a blackhawk. The Flyers are a melting pot and out comes a team that plays for the logo on the front not the name on the back of their jersey's.

You're team might not be Canada's team but the roster has more canadians on it than the Canadiens do! :) Tough luck, but great season.
No reason to be disappointed in this team. They've overachieved over what I thought was possible for them. I am proud of this team and look forward to taking more steps in the right direction in the future.Hopefully Homer can fleece some more teams this summer.
Macaroni_Jones -- Holmgren did a great job putting this team together, but I wouldn't look for a repeat job in fleecing along the lines of what Philly did to Nashville and Atlanta. Nashville was desperate to win a playoff series (thus the Forsberg deal) and Atlanta was desperate to just get into the playoffs (thus the Zhitnik deal). In retrospect, the Nashville deal still makes some sense from a Preds perspective (a healthy Forsberg could have been reasonably expected to push the Preds deep into the playoffs) -- the Atlanta deal is just a head-scracther (I honestly didn't know anything about Coburn at the time of the deal, but my thought was "Why would you trade for that bum Zhitnik", regardless of what you were giving up to get him).
Interesting that as soon as an opinion is shared that doesn't agree with you, the comment is deleted. Typical.
A few tweaks here and there but the main focus for Mr. Holmgren this offseason is getting folks re-signed.
