Sorry for the delay, I waited to see if the Hockeybuzz's Ottawa writer was going to post but he did not, atleast yet so here's a breakdown of the Sens Prospect camp last week.
Goalies--- To no surprise for other Sens fans our Goalie prospects didn't stand out in a good way. Elliot looked like a CHL goalie, new to the minors. Mitch O'keefe showed why he's a free agent. Neither looked comfortable in net even during simple drills. However a lone bright spot maybe the small flashes of talent Kevin Desfossés showed. He was quick post to post and had a quick glove hand, he was thier on an amateur tryout so here hoping we give him a chance in Bingo.
Defense----- Brian Lee really, REALLY stood out at this camp, this Kid is ready to be the go to guy on the blueline. He is increidebly fast and had some heat seeking shots during the drills. Hes inline for a big year. My darkhourse prospect Tomas Kudelka fulfilled my expectations and looks like his development is coming along nicely, my only knock on him was he seems like he over thinks his passes and it slow his breakout speed noticably. Geoff Waugh, the bingo d-man Murray signed in the offseason, looked out of place among Lee and Kudelka, Waugh looks like he is strickly a depth signing. Ben Wright was the only other D-man to catch my eye, he has a hell of a shot, but didnt look like a strong skater compared to the others. I had his shot hit the glass right in front of my face and it woke me up in a hurry.
Offense----- I was really surprised to see Foligno and Bass there, and by the way Foligno played we may not need a top-six forward, he look really good both days I was there, Foligno and Lee looked like veterans out there, the were leading drills, explaining things to other players. Both showed promising leadership on the ice. Bass looked like he did at the end of last season. Ilya Zubov has bulked up considerably, watch for him to make the jump this season. Jim O'brein has been progressing well, he looked like one of the fastest guys outhere, Peter Regin wasn't far behind him, hasn displayed some soft hands on the last day of camp. Shawn Weller looks to be a few years behind the others but still showed a bit of promise. Now I'm a bit confused, I was told Alex Nikulin wasn't at camp, but his name appeared on the media roster and I could of sworn I saw him on ice or atleast his number. But for the sake of dodging an arguement whom ever was wearing 41 on his helmet looked strong offensively but looked shakey during the defensive drills, specifically his bawkwards skating, but for how good offensively he looked, Murray may over-look his defensive shortcomings in the search for goals on the big club.
We have some strong prospects in the system and some great rookies ready for this season, if we can ever draft a solid goalie prospect we can shine long after Alffie retires. atleast thats how this camp has shown.
I have posted some links to a few pics from camp, sorry about the quality I was using my cell phone. to take them.
