Draft winds are blowing some trades our way some I am open to and some I am not! While I would be thrilled if the Bruins can somehow find themselves in the top 10 tonight I ask myself at what cost? This remains to be seen, but from what I've read this morning on TSN, I am little concerned.
I've said this on all of my blog tangents since I've been a member of Hockeybuzz. The Bruins cannot trade Phil Kessel. The most successful first round draft pick since Jumbo Joe and Bourque before him.
I don't care if he shy's away from the corners...doesn't play physical enough etc etc. The boy is a natural goal scorer...one like Boston hasn't seen in a long time. Not to mention his speed is unmatched in the Boston lineup.
What this kid has gone through the past couple of seasons...to put a season like last year shows that this kid is more than just flash and skill. His defensive game has improved greatly and I felt that this was his one major deficiency. Not Physicality!!!
While Tomas Kaberle would be a nice addition to the blueline, I really can't see Burke giving his 7th pick and Kaberle in a deal for Kessel. I would imagine that he would be getting Boston's 25th pick in return?
The price he put on Kaberle at the trade deadline was certainly steeper than this!!!
On the Dany Heatley front...I'm sure he would be nice in Boston but not with that salary...even if you trade a draft pick for him...who else is going? Marc Savard? Kessel? Bergeron? Is addition by subtraction really what this Boston team needs?
They scored the second most goals last season only to Detriot...while giving up the least. Bergeron appeared to be getting closer to himself at the end of last season, with Sturm coming back next year (unless he's dealt this weekend) the Bruins upfront seem ok to me.
I would like a horse to go to the next like a Mike Knuble and another PP point man to help big Z out back there. But maybe Matt Hunwick will continue his progress and be just that???
I think the B's need some tinkering...I'm not sure a major splash is what the doctor ordered here...but that's just my opinion!!!
Either way I am excited to see what this weekend brings as a precursor to the Free Agent frenzy that is just under a week away!!!
That's it for now.
No pick headed Boston's way. Boston actually packaging a decent pick that is not a first rounder in this deal. As per TSN.
my bad... apparently the pick was included... at least from Boston's perspective.
