The salary cap era has forced the Bruins hand in dealing a tremendous warrior and leader in the clubhouse in Aaron Ward. He is a class act in the community, the locker room and on the ice and he will be missed!
Kudos also to Peter Chiarelli for dealing him to Carolina where Ward won a cup and still owns a home. I wish you the best of luck in Carolina Aaron, when you came from the Rangers for Paul Mara I had questioned the move because it seemed like Wards services would be better suited for a playoff team trying to add a leader for a cup run.
I think he ended up being a huge component to the resurgence of the Bruins over the last two years. The examples he set for the younger players, sacrificing the body continually, playing through injuries and being a total professional on and off the ice.
While I'm sure the move bothers him a bit, he is going back to Carolina and it's the best move possible for him.
The Bruins in the deal received Carolina's fourth round pick in next years draft and Patrick Eaves whom Chiarelli is familar with from his days in Ottawa. Eaves was immediately waived for the purpose of buying him out. This will reduce his cap hit for the next year. If no team claims him, it remains to be seen if Boston will re-negotiate with him or not. I know he is a player Chiarelli likes.
You have to have the feeling that another move like is in the works in order for Chiarelli to get into the space he needs to re-sign Kessel.
We shall see...but for now, the Bruins definitely have a whole in their leadership department!!!
