"Off The Post: Inching Closer to the Future"
Long Island, NY • United States • 25 Years Old • Male
There was a point in the season when #57 would not be seen on the ice, but over a recent stretch that extends beyond the Olympic break, Blake Comeau has been finding a way to make each of his shifts count.

He currently has 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points, a new career high in all three categories. Those may not be top-six forward numbers, but Comeau has emerged as an effective depth player on the Islanders roster.

Many have wondered if Comeau is exactly the type of player that Gordon could utilize on the ice as there were many games he was a healthy scratch. He even started last season in Bridgeport, allowing many to question his attitude. However the only attitude that Isles fans have been seeing comes from his shoulders as he has been flattening opponents to the ice and along the boards while making smart plays that have contributed to his team's wins.

For example, the shorthanded goal that Sean Bergenheim scored the other night against the New Jersey Devils was due to Blake's patience, out-waiting Ilya Kovalchuk at the blue line which forced him to dive and allowed a 2-on-1 rush. With the Devils defender overplaying Comeau on the near side of the ice, Bergy was left all alone for a mini-breakaway on former Isles net minder Yann Danis. The goal took review from the big guys up in Toronto, but it didn't take long for the call on the ice to be made official.

Comeau also was part of a great play that put a Toronto come back out of reach last night when he fed a cross ice pass to Bailey, who then passed the puck through the crease to Matt Moulson to lift the puck top shelf on the power play, giving the Islanders a 4-1 lead. It was his third assist of the night and the first three-assist game of his career.

And not to really go back in time, but let's not forget about the hat trick he scored a little over a week ago, which was also the first of his career.

Blake has been performing much like how Kyle Okposo and Sean Bergenheim started to come on strong towards the final quarter of last season. Bergenheim has been unable to provide a promising transition from last season into the present, but Kyle has done just that and then some. Don't be surprised if you see the "C" slapped on his jersey at the start of next year.

With Comeau developing in a similar fashion in to which Okposo has, it is encouraging to see that Blake is finally starting to find his niche with the Islanders.
