"Off The Post: Inching Closer to the Future"
Long Island, NY • United States • 25 Years Old • Male
Alright...it is a bold argument to make being that 2010 is just a wee seven days old, but if anyone saw Robbie Schremp's goal last night, they would understand why he might have a case for the best goal of 2010.

Over the course of his young career, Schremp has had a very difficult time finding his way onto an NHL line-up. If you watch him play, it is evident that the kid has some great hands and the ability to be a real threat on the ice. His AHL stats support this theory, but his attitude has come into question at times which may have been the reason why he had such a hard time earning a chance to succeed with the Edmonton Oilers. It also may be why 29 other teams passed him up on waivers. Even when the Isles claimed him he still found his way into the press-box for a good stretch. Hence, he's only played 22 games this season.

However injuries have allowed him to make his way into the line-up and so far he has been relishing the opportunity with every shift. Lately he has been playing great hockey; he's hit a few posts, proving that he's put himself in scoring position; he's earned a few assists making plays; and he scored one of the most interesting goals to ever be scored in a hockey game.

If you haven't seen it, here's the YouTube video:

Anyone who plays hockey knows that confidence means everything, it can completely dictate what type of player you are and how you produce on the ice, regardless of your talent level. Being that this kid is clearly talented, you would think that after scoring a goal like this his confidence would shoot through the roof. The Islanders can certainly use some depth scoring since Tavares, Moulson and Okposo haven't been shining lately.

To the contrary, Okposo did happen to score another game winning goal last night. Team USA will really be lacking a true clutch performer. Maybe four years into the future they'll realize that he should be competing for the gold instead of just a potential IR replacement.

In the grand scheme of things, the Islanders started off this brief West coast road trip with a win in Colorado, the first time they have done so since 1999. This Friday they visit the Dallas Stars, and the hockey world may finally see the return of Rick DiPietro between the pipes.

P.S. I have started blogging at www.thecheckingline.com as the site's Isles Blogger. It's a great site that has a lot of insight from several different writers. Be sure to check it out!
