So I guess we will start out with the end of our playoffs. To me these play offs were just ok. I never felt like the sharks were going to dominate a series. We almost dominated the wings but we all know how that went. To me the sharks were relying on their size and puck possession as the only offense. This can work well but isn't the hardest thing to defend when you know it's coming. There was no real speed from the forwards with few exceptions. On the defensive side the sharks were just average. White was ok but his true skill never broke through. Wallin and Huskins were also ok,but to go all the way you need more than ok play from most of your team. Niemi did surprise me and I wouldn't say he is an elite net minded but he was able to rise to the occasion enough to make it to the western final, they needed stronger defensive plays to open up the offense.
Seeing sego singed and traded for burns is a great move. I do like seto but we need a guy like Burns. To me Burns is a cross between Boyle and Blake. Losing coyle in the deal isn't something I totally love but in the short term it is a great move. This is a very strong upgrade for our defense.
Heatly for havlat is a trade I love. The sharks can't really lose on this deal. Heater was a good player but not a 7.5 million player. His numbers took a great hit and for some reason Heater was a guy when I looked at him, I just didn't like him. Havlat at worse is a cap spaCe maker as he has only a 5 million cap hit. At best the Wild get the goal scorer they really need, and the Sharks got a player almost as good as Heater but a better skater and the sharks need this mobility. Hard for me to say if there is a true winner or loser on this trade.
After the heater trade I found myself really interested in spending a few more bucks to pickup season tickets
i love all the moves he made. Burns had more points then seto, and he played for a team that doesnt show much Offence. trading Coyle does suck, but this team needs to win soon, so the future can take a back peddle. Im not a huge havlat fan, he's fairly delicate, but he is speedy and is 2.5 million cheaper. liking the new players already.
Burns was a great pick up and Heatley was a cancer in the dressing room that needed to be removed, he hasn't really changed since his Ottawa days, he rubs people the wrong way and your teams needs chemistry in both the locker room and on the ice to truly be successful
Anyone else y'all hope is picked up to fill in a 3rd/4th line roll?
not much left out there, Ruutu maybe to bring some grit that we lost when nichol left :/ but im not a huge fan, and he better be really really cheap at 35 or 36 yrs of age lol. perhaps we could trade for heatley, he liked the third line when he was here :D
