Now some may think of this as a surprise but I personally believe a player not of Nash's caliber is what the leafs need. Don't get me wrong though, I would love to see Nash playing for the leafs. Here's what I think the leafs need.
1. A Scoring leader, preferably a veteran, and one that doesn't cost much. Think Bill Guerin, Mark Recchi, Teemu Selanne, Ryan Smyth. Now obviously none of them would be traded but the cost would be much lower for caliber like that while you still get scoring and secondly leadership. The leadership will be handy in mentoring, that way the losing streaks won't be so dramatic.
Top Players Potentially: Ryan Smyth, Tuumo Ruutu
2. Goaltender: No not Jonathan Bernier who could be a great move, but unfortunately will probably not be easily acquired. I say Steve Mason, why this is a goaltender who has the requisite skills but is obviously shaken. Thus his stock level will be lower. This makes it a low risk move because Reimer and Gustavsson would probably stay. Toronto presents pressure, a change of scenery, and a better defence overall compared to that of Columbus. This means for low risk Toronto may acquire the old Mason. If not he's easily expandable come free agency.
3. Lose Koisarek, Lombardi and potentially Franson. Now I love the move when Burke acquired Lombardi and Franson, the reason for this is fetching return. Dangling Franson or Lombardi might help them gather a much more needed piece, if not than keep them. Komisarek well an improved year but still needs to go, he is low man on the totem pole and paid too much.
You can lie but I know that you're not fine (oh yeah) Every time you talk You talk 'bout me but you swear I'm not on your mind You can pretend you don't miss me (me) You can pretend you don't care. tetris skribbl io
