2013 Playoff Predictions

Posted 11:13 PM ET | Comments 2
It's the quarter mark of the Nhl shortened season, so here is my prediction.

Eastern Conference
1. Boston Bruins
2. New Jersey Devils
3. Carolina Hurricanes
4. Pittsburgh Penguins
5. New York Rangers
6. Toronto Maple Leafs
7. Montreal Canadiens
8. Philadelphia Flyers

9. Washington Capitals
10. Tampa Bay Lightning
11. Winnipeg Jets
12. Ottawa Senators
13. Buffalo Sabres
14. New York Islanders
15. Florida Panthers

The East four are Pttsburgh, Boston, New Jersey and Carolina. All have legit shots. The Rangers make an extremely dangerous fifth, while Toronto, Montreal, and Flyers show need to improve.

West
1. Chicago Blackhawks
2. Vancouver Canucks
3. Anaheim Ducks
4. Nashville Predators
5. Detroit Red Wings
6. St. Louise Blues
7. San Jose Sharks
8. Dallas Stars

9. Minnesota Wild
10. Los Angeles Kings
11. Edmonton Oilers
12. Pheonix Coyotes
13. Colorado Avalanche
14. Calgary Flames
15. Columbus Blue Jackets

The top four represent an interesting set. Chicago and Vancouver are legit contenders, Anaheim has things to prove, and Nashville are are typical strong defensive team. The bottom four has legit weaknesses needing addressing. The Oilers will be scary come next year, and the Flames will blame injuries for the failure of playoffs and not sell until next year.

Playoffs
East.
1 VS 8 - Boston in 5
2 VS 7 - New Jersey in 4
3 VS 6 - Toronto in 7
4 Vs 5 - Pittsburgh in 7

West
1 VS 8 - Chicago in 5
2 VS 7 - Vancouver in 6
3 Vs 6 - Anaheim in 6
4 VS 5 - Nashville in 4

Toronto pulls a rare upset, but has real tough competition ahead.

Semis
1 VS 6 - Boston in 5
2 VS 4 - New Jersey in 7

West
1 VS 4 - Nashville in 6
2 VS 3 - Vancouver in 7

Toronto keeps the games close, but Boston closes it out in 5 games with 3 one goal wins. Despite regular season dominance, defense overtakes Chicago, and Kane is held invisible.

Conference
East
1 VS 2 - New Jersey in 6
West
2 VS 4 - Vancouver in 6

The Battle of the 2s emerges. Brodeur has a second chance before retirement and Vancouver who kept Luongo, allows him to take control in the final for one last shot.

Finals
Vancouver wins in 7 games. No games over 3 goals, Vancouver wins their long deserved cup and Brodeur vows to get one more shot before retirement. Luongo helps win the cup and gets traded to Washington.
