Avs 2, Flames 0. Although the score may seem somewhat misleading, the game was much closer. Again, at the start of the game the Avs came out somewhat tentative, though I have to say our passing was much crisper tonight. I thought Calgary really set the physical tone early, especially thanks to Phaneuf. I love this guy, I really do, and I thought he was great tonight (at least in the first half of the game) but I have to say, the hit from behind on Forsberg should have been called (2 mins).
Finally the Avs scored on the PP, and it was Leo of all people who got the goal! The second Avs goal was debatable for sure, though it did look like Smyth was close if not right there. Regardless, Calgary had a few good opportunities to score and either missed them or were shutdown and shutout by a solid Theo tonight.
The Avs now have to get ready for a Canucks team, who will play Calgary tomorrow night before Wednesday's game. I'm really excited for the Avs/Nucks on Wednesday...not because we have the opportunity to stay close in the Division race but because my wife and I are actually going to be there - our FIRST TRIP TO THE PEPSI CENTER!
When my wife told me we should book a trip to Denver for a vacation I thought she was joking...then she said, "why don't we go see the Avs play - seriously". I nearly fell off my chair, but here we are, two days away from our first visit. Who knew Peter and Adam would return and that Jose would be playing so well?!
Obviously it's a big game, not just because we'll be there, live, but because if the Nucks lose to Calgary tomorrow night we could put them two points behind during the final push for the playoffs...who would you rather play if you were Col: Det, SJ or MIN? None of the choices look very appetizing to be honest...I'm just glad I finally get to visit the great city of Denver and be able to cheer for the home team for once!
Here's my spoof of the M/C ads...keep in mind there's two of us...
Flights from Vancouver - Denver, return: $500ish
Hotel in Denver, 3 nights: $500ish
Jersey for wife, as I already have 3: $100 (Youth, L)
Not hearing Louuuuuuuuu every time HE touches the puck: PRICELESS!

I was only able to listen to the game on the radio (PPV games strategically placed down the stretch run by the Flames). It sounded to me like the Avs basically outplayed Calgary, although ESPN.com gave Theodore first star so I guess it was closer than I initially thought.

Thanks for the luck last night. Hope you had fun, drank a cold one or two, and got one of those parmesan pretzels.
