I am not sure what to make of things. I was excited at the coming of UFA time but the lack of anything going on has left me a little bummed out. I read this comment from Doug Wilson “We’re a better team now than we were at the beginning of last season.”
Ok excellent...but how is San Jose a better team now than it was last year at this time? Bernier is not here and he showed a lot of promise. Does not having Semenov mean we are that much better (I could agree with this part of it). We have kept Jody Shelly, this guy I am not sure what to make of him. I do enjoy reading his lips when he is telling the other team what he thinks of them. His impact on the ice was nothing I thought was great, he was on par with Scott Parker.
San Jose has a hole on the blue line that needs to be filled. The team needed some changes, we got part of that in a new coach. I do belive for this team to get over the 2nd round we should have tried to get and sign an impact UFA.
This is my first blog so if you have constructive critisim feel free to post it up.
Good first blog my man. I think if SJ does anything it will be via trade. $11 mill under the cap with RFAs Clowe, Goc, and Ehrhoff yet to be signed. That should leave room for a good dman making $4-5 mill. Who knows, maybe they'll trade for Boyle?
San jose may still have interest in a guy like Kubina, which could be who they ma go after if Fletched decides he needs to trade him if McCabe won't go.
What has San Jose done to improve you askNothing of all the team in the NHL can you name any other team but the Sharks who have acquired NO ONE, not one single player since the day before the draft?
lalalafontaineWhy do the sharks always have to trade away players and draft picks to improve the team. Management promised STH at the state of sharks address in June that payroll would increase by 10 million dollars so why no free agents.
The payroll increased 10 million because of raises to Michalek, Carle, Thornton, Marleau, Pavelski, Roenick, and soon, Clowe and Ehrhoff.
I am very disappointed, too. However, DW did say before it all that if he couldn't get Campbell signed that he would be most likely acquiring a dman via a trade rather than free agency. And the way players like Redden and Hainsey were overpaid makes it seem like a smart move, depending on what DW gives up to get his man.
It's no secret DW has been going after Kubina for a while now and rumour has it they are also going after Boyle.
What a difference 24 hrs makes...
