First of all, I want to give a shout out to the other Avs bloggers on this site - you're all doing a great job, writing nearly every game. It's nice to see some more support than we had last year.
As previously mentioned, it's not real easy for me to get blogs out as I'm currently in South Korea teaching ESL to bratty little children...anyways...it's nice to be back
I've been reviewing a lot of forums, blogs, etc, regarding our beloved team and the prognosis is not great. As I write this, the Avs prepare to play St. Louis and are currently in a tightly contested battle for last in the West. Ha, whoever thought we'd say that about Colorado eh?! Fans from around the world, particularly in Denver, dream of days long since passed and are now turning to the future: demolitions.
Many people seem to think it would be good for Colorado to throw the season and end up with a really high draft pick. Not bad, not bad. Other people think we should blow the team up and start from scratch, suggesting that anyone could be had for the right price. Let's think for a minute.
The first option of "throwing the season" doesn't seem to fit. Why? Does it really seem like we're going to make the playoffs or win the division at this point? Are we really playing well enough to say that we can "throw the season"? Hell no.
Option two: demolitions experts systematically destroy the foundations of the team hoping to extract something (or someone) good from the rubble. I'm not against that entirely - just mostly.
Let's be honest. Things haven't gone the way any of us fans dreamed. Coming into training camp there was a lot of buzz, a lot of excitement about the Avs potential for this year. The acquisitions of Tucker and Raycroft, among others, were met with some questions and they haven't exactly "proved" themselves here yet. But I still believe Tucker's got fight left in him.
Which brings me to the point of this whole thing. I wrote a number of blogs last year about Colorado and heart. That little something that had been missing since Forsberg and Roy (and Foote) left - since the so-called "Glory Days." When Tony Granato was promoted to Head Coach, I stopped dead in my tracks. I don't believe he's a bad coach, but I don't think he's the kind of coach our young guns need right now. We need someone who is a no-nonsense guy but someone who can also be a real teacher - a guy that promotes work ethic and in-your-face stuff. If you've ever seen Tony in an interview, he's just so nice all the time! That's not even an insult, it's just the truth - he's too nice for our team. We bring in guys like Smytty, Hannan, Foote, Tucker, and the Cody's and just expect them to teach the rest of the team, but it HAS TO start with the coaching staff. To be clear, I'm not sure if I'm in favor of a guy like Tortorella, I just think we need someone else. I'm also not blaming TG for the entire mess ('cause our team has sucked big time, most of the time), but at the end of the day he needs to be held accountable as the top guy.
That, above any other trade option or demolitions crew, is where I think we should start to help our team get back on track. By all means FG, if there's a trade that would shake things up and bring in some help, please make it. But if we're serious about changing the team, let's start with the coaches and work our way down from there. Just a thought. What about you?

While the Avs won't win the Stanley Cup they are favorites for the next big race, Taveres or Hedmen. Seriously those two guys are the franchise players we deperately need. I am not saying throw the season. But what I am saying get rid of some of the filler players (like Salei, Clark, Arnason, etc) and call up some young guys who are boarderline ready. Cumiskey and Steward primarily. Then just ride out the season. As a fan I am okay with one terrible season as opposed to 5 years of mediocrity. Thanks for reppin the Avs! We need all the good bloggers we can get!

Blow this team up. Its that simple. Hejduk, Arnie, Clark, Salei, Svatos, Smyth, Tucker, Raycroft, Budaj, Liles...I like some of those guys too, but christ this team is awful. Other than Stastny and Hensick, and Sakic of course, I really don't care to see any of these guys in Avs uniform.

i really don't think a complete overhaul of our team is needed...a few tweaks in key areas, maybe one big "shakeup" but nothing drastic...
