The Sabres dropped their third straight game (all at home), falling to the Devils 1-0 in overtime.
New Jersey earned their first win of the season. They have been playing with 15 skaters due to cap space. Well, it worked out for them. Ilya Kovalchuk's quick shot beat Ryan Miller to give New Jersey the victory.
The Devils played their usual, slow and boring game of hockey, and it worked perfectly to their advantage. The defensive style of play and "the trap" led the Devils to their first win of the season.
So, what's the excuse for this game? The game against the Rangers was a complete throw-away, since that way probably the worst I had seen the team play in years. The players were too worried about Jason Pominville during the Chicago game. So now what?
Should Sabres fans be concerned? I think so.
Yes, the Sabres have been playing some tough opponents, but that should not matter. Buffalo started the season out with an exciting win over the Senators. You would think that they would come back and be amped up for the home opener.

slow and boring trap?...i didn't really see that last night...it was a pretty up-tempo game...sure, the devils were tough in their own zone, especially blocking shots...the sabres could not finish, agian, and many times missed a scoring opportunity because they were in too tight on brodeur
as for their fall after a big win vs. the sens, it can be summed up in one word--hubris...go to buffalosabresnow to find a blog on that subject...but, like lindy ruff said, they were full of themselves
derek roy looked like a new and improved player, vs. ott, but he's back to his moody, self-centered self once again...staff, like in seasons past, needed a talking to from ruff to get things going and, just like in the past, it'll only work for a game or two...connolly is still a wuss..
connolly is still a wuss...pomminville's out...hecht is playing well in whatever role he's needed...vanek is beating on a door to open it up...the pp still sux...miller is at his best when he concentrates on his game...
grier's slow, kaleta's still doing stupid things, nieds is average, goose is doing allright on the fourth line...ennis and gerbe are having growing pains...myers is trying to do too much, morrison was playing fairly well, but he's now injured...sekera still has too many brain farts
monty and leopold are playing really well, although they're hardly perfect...rivet isn't as bad as he was last season...mccormick's playing really well and has shown that he's a better fighter then second-round draft-pick andrew peters...lalime hasn't been given the opportunity to flop yet
the pp sux, the pk's strong, the gm still believe's in "lacore" and the coach seems to be asking them to do things that they're incapable of...like working hard, focusing, fighting for pucks, never giving up on a play, skating as a five man unit, trusting your teammates, defending your teammates..same sh!t, different day
