Buffalo 4, Philadelphia 2

If these two teams were to meet in the playoffs, what a series that would be.

This was arguably the most entertaining game of the season for the Buffalo Sabres. Maybe that is exactly what they need to get back to winning ways.

After an 8-1-1 start, Buffalo has lost four in a row prior to Friday's game.

The Sabres came into Philly and beat the Flyers at their own game...for the second time this season.
Buffalo Sabres play by play announcer Rick Jeanneret described the team's win as "their grittiest performance of the year".

In the 1st period, Patrick Kaleta was ejected from the game for a boarding call. Kaleta buried Jared Ross into the boards, starting the first of many scrums.

Drew Stafford put Buffalo up 1-0 midway through the first. The puck deflected off of a Flyers' stick, giving the Sabres the lead.

The Flyers were the ones who came out on top after one. Mike Richards and Braydon Coburn combined to score two goals in the final minute of the first period.

18 seconds into the 2nd, Daniel Carcillo and Craig Rivet dropped the gloves. Nine minutes later, they would meet again, right off of the faceoff.

While in the box, Carcillo was unable to keep his mouth shut. He was sent to the locker room to serve his ten minute misconduct penalty.

Paul Gaustad deflected a shot on the powerplay to tie the game at two.

In the third, Tim Connolly was the only one to score. He netted two goals, propelling the Sabres to a 4-2 win. Connolly finished with 4 points, contributing on each Sabres goal.

Philadelphia pulled Ray Emery with three minutes remaining, but neither team was able to score.

Ryan Miller finished with 31 saves, showing another strong performance. He took away what looked like a sure goal from Jeff Carter in the second.

Although the Sabres did get the victory, they lost a couple of key players. Captain Craig Rivet crashed into the boards, injuring his leg. Paul Gaustad also left the game with a leg injury. Both players are expected to miss time.

Except for the final minute in the first, Buffalo had control of the game.

The Sabres will head home to host Carolina on Saturday night.

The cheap shot of the week was delivered by Kaleta who charged and jumped Ross behind the net. Everyone needs to know that the 2 Sabres that got hurt were both the result of ramming their own body into the wall. Gaustad hurt himself on a missed check into the wall behind the Philly net. Rivet lost an edge and went legs first into the wall to injure his left leg. It was Buffalo that was playing the goon game today.

And Kaleta was so tough that after the cheap shot, he turned into a freaking turtle when it was time to stand up like a real man!

And Rivet was pulling Carcillo's hair during the 2nd fight. No wonder their coach has to get the team fired up!

Kaleta got his face smashed into the boards. I would like to see you stand up like a man after taking that hit. and what about Tyler Myers getting speared in the head and richards only gets 2 min?!?!and Carcillo looks like a rapist

kaleta is such a pussy. He needs to take some manhood lessons from lapperierre.

Kaleta is a cheap shot artist and the big karma caught up with the hair pulling Rivet!

I hate Kaleta as much as anyone, but I just find it funny that somebody with the name" Clarkie16" could have the balls to accuse anyone of being a cheap shot artist, that is classic stuff right there.

Kaleta aggrevates the opposing teams. He draws them into taking many more penalties. It's not like he is getting away with cheap shots. I don't understand what you are complaining about. It was a bad hit yesterday, and he was thrown out of the game for it.

His playing style worked against philly. He aggrevated the flyers team right at the start, taking them off of their game plan. Buffalo controlled the whole game except for the final minute of the 1st.

Buffalo played the goon game because that is how you have to play against philly. The flyers are a bunch of goons. And what's with the fans booing for somebody getting injured? that's real classy.

Flyers' fans are bigger goons than that scum Carcillo. Way to boo when a hurt player gets on his feet. No need for respect or sportsmanship in Philadelphia.

Hey Buffalo fans - Brett Hull scored a good goal and Scott Norwood misses WIDE RIGHT!!! LMAO!

wow clarkie, that was your comeback? hull's skate was in the crease, and why would you bring football into this?
November 28, 2009 5:39 PM ET | Delete
Grow up dude. It was clear that Buffalo was clearly the UNSPORTSMANLIKE team yesterday. They had the guy ejected, had the guy pulling hair (give him a skirt). The team is cheap! They won't pay anyone to stay, and the players play cheap too!

And to prove me right - Kaleta suspended for cheap hit!
November 29, 2009 2:34 AM ET | Delete
i never said kaleta's hit was ok. It was a dirty hit, he got ejected from the game, and suspended. What more do you want? I just watched both fights from the game. I didn't see anyone pulling hair. Watch the videos on youtube and tell me when rivet pulled carcillo's hair.

why on earth would you argue with a troll named (snicker, snicker) clarkie...i'm sure bobby clarke would be proud to have clarkie (snicker, snicker) come to the defense of the fly-boys

and, what happened to my post above the "testing...testing" one...too long?

probably, if they are too long you have to break them up into mini paragraphs

ok...here goes...--sabres manned-up in a two-period alley-fight and came out on top in the third--i like mike richards' game and leadership, but he's turning into a very dirty player (see booth and myers) and is getting away with it because he's very smart...bobby clarke would be proud
November 29, 2009 2:01 PM ET | Delete
--daniel carcillo probably had a gripe, and had every right to piss and moan...for a little while...but the length of his b!iching was annoying...he'a an archetypal goon playing for a team that has a long history of that style of play, and he came off as a complete idiot...he'll continue to loose games for philly, just like vs. pitt in the playoffs last season

anyone who thinks connoly's goal from just inside the blueline was weak is misguided...that shot was a quick release, had velocity and was dead-on...had any of those facets not been present--no goal

drew stafford was a monster when he schooled richards for ten seconds along the boards...the only thing he's lacking is consistency in his game

vanek is painfully slow...it may be the lingering effects of his injury and/or he's outta shape

and, finally...sorry ek, you won't be getting my mobile number, nor will i be a season ticket-holder...i've been on this site over two years and never had to do that to post on a regular blog or pm
