Americans go 1-2-3 in scoring...pretty good...10pts in 4 games for that #12 guy...that's pretty good too. To be fair, vanRiemsdyk had a really good third period-he was strong on the puck and worked hard to get that goal. But I think I heard his name mentioned all of twice in the previous 2 periods. What happened, you might ask?
1 word: Domination!
Canada's defense really, truly outplayed, outchecked and outworked the Americans today. It was tense in the opening couple minutes but once they settled down they took control and didn't look back. Luke Schenn was amazing: big hits, really smart skating and passing and really strong against the big boys of the US.
Steve Mason was sharp too. He didn't look nervous even in the opening flurry. He hung in there when the Americans had screens in front. You gotta feel for Bernier as he was touted as the #1 coming into this tourny. But Steve has really stepped up and shut the door on the #1 offensive team in the tournament.
Brad Marchand looked awesome too...finally! He certainly had some bad moments so far, but he proved he is a true team player, making unselfish plays and sticking with the puck in the scrums.
Now we get renewed rivalries: US-Russia for Bronze, after the US beat them earlier; while Canada-Sweden go for Gold, after Sweden won an inspired game earlier. If Canada plays as they did today, I have a hard time seeing Sweden roll over us like they did last time. But if we are tentative at all, it's going to be a gold medal for the blue & yellow.

So does the VanRiemsdyk hating come from one fan talking smack or is it from all of us USA'ers (Flyers fans in this case of hating)?
