So the long awaited move has finally happened . Burke managed to unload Schneider to get his team under the cap. The trade looked liek this :

Anaheim aqcuired: Ken Klee (1.250), Brad Larsen (.560), Chad Painchaud(.100)
Atlanta acquired: Mathieu Schneider (5.625)

Now here comes the question . Who do you think won that trade?

We all know Anaheim's one intetion was to get under the cap . Without weakining themselves to much. Also it should be added that when Burke was trying to deal Schneider he did not want to include Bobby Ryan in any package . As quoted in a interview I got off Nhl.com

What we have done here today is accomplish two goals, in my mind. We have gotten under the cap and we’ve managed to do it without parting with Bobby Ryan, ” Burke said. “ A number of the proposals we received – and two of the more dogged and determined ones – would have required us to put Bobby Ryan in the deal. That was something we did not want to do. To me, that was a major goal and both those goals got accomplished today.”

Now as for Atlanta , it seems they are taking the post-lock out route of building a good team with goalie out. They have their starter in place and have the makings of a good D-corps . Now with Schneider added they possess that puck moving D-man they sorely needed last year . Schneider obviously brings steady D and good offencive vision. He will improve the Thrasher PP give one more threat from the point . Also his prescence indirectly may prompt Kovalchuk sign long-term as he wants to play for a team that has a shot at the cup.Schneider may even perhaps help Kozlov find his game again with his ability to set people up from the point.

So let me ask you , whodo you think won the trade?

In my view , I believe it would have to be considered a bit of a toss up. Both teams achieved their goals without giving up key players. But if I had to choose . I would say Atlanta for what Schneider can bring to the table and the fact that if they are out of playoff contention they can deal him and get a good return , to help them further.

Just my take , what do you all think?

Let's see what Schneider bring the Thrashers at the deadline.

i dunnot but Don Waddell could've had Schneider for free through wavers lol. but maybe he intended to move klee and larsen's salaries too. I still can't believe Waddell traded Coburn to Philly for Zhitnik though

If you just look at the trade without any of the reasons why Schneider was traded, the Thrash tore the Ducks a new bung hole. Who the hell is Ken Klee and why is he making $1.25 mil!?! But, if you look at it as the Ducks traded Schneider for Ken Klee AND Teemu Selanne, suddenly it's Mr. Waddell who is having trouble walking.

I have to disagree with you duxcup07. Whats the point of comparing something when you take out one of the major factors? You have to consider the reason Burke moved him. Ken Klee is a decent 6 or 7th defense man at this point of his career nothing more. And Waddell probably does not care about Selanne coming back to the ducks. To answer the question of who wins. I say Thrashers hands down. They get an asset to trade at the deadline without giving up anything major. Klee would have been moved at the deadline probably to. Ducks lose because they lose a solid player, even if it allows them to sign Selanne they still lose because if Burke did his job right he would have had the space to sign Selanne and keep Schnieder.

Ducks4cup: Waddell could have picked him up off waivers, but he would not have been able to move him this season. At least that is my understanding of the CBA.

There just going to move Schnieder at the deadline, great move by Waddell

Since Anaheim signed Selanne with the room from the deal, I would say Anaheim won the deal.

I'm more interested in who won the lunch time pudding / gummy fruit snack trade at the 3rd grade of my local elementary school than this crap. After I passed out from sheer boredom from the first half of your post and woke back up and was going through the second half of your post and read "help Kozlov find his game again" I felt my IQ drop 20 points. Kozlov couldn't find his game again if it was delivered to him FedEx.Seriously, you're just taking up bandwidth with this crap.

I have to agree that the Thrashers won here. Even if you look at it from the perspective of Selanne being a factor, you have to ask which player ultimately makes their respective teams better? Schneider will give Atlanta an solid first PP unit with him and Enstrom on the point and Kovalchuk, Kozlov and Williams up front. Also, 5-on-5 Schneider is pretty damned good. Looking at it from the addition of a full two years with Selanne on the Ducks Are they that much better with him compared to last year? Probably not any worse, but ultimately Schneider adds more to what is already there, and if the Thrashers bomb and he can be moved for a prospect and a 1st rounder, essentially Waddell has engineered a deal that see's him getting some futures, 5 million dollars in cap space and for utility players. Also, Greatlakeswimmer is right. If Burke did his job right, he would have Schneider and Selanne under contract and under the cap.

Are you under the impression that I want to be a writer Pens871? What part of casual did you fail to understand . Writing is no where near my profession of choice . HA HA I can't believe you actually thought I wanted to be a writer just because I blog. I mean read my stuff it lacks any professional touch or even grammar. How do you get the idea I wanted to go someplace with it . i write for the fun of it , and because I love the sport . Why do you write and come here? For the same reasons I'm sure. I read your malking blog , found it interesting , but I never assumed you wanted to be a writer . Merely thought you were writing about a sport you enjoy.Out of curiosity are you aiming to be a writer? But anywayz bro if you wanna continue to trash my stuff , it makes no difference to me . i will continue to respond as I always have to you , and i will continue to write because I like to. I look forward to reading some of your stuff as well .Im sure I will hear from you again.

I want to revise my response in light of the recent signing and witnessing the Ducks-Canucks game last night. The Ducks got the better of the deal without a doubt. If the goal of a trade is to make your team better, the Ducks addition of Selanne while losing Schneider puts them over the top in this trade.
