Ok we all knwo the drill , I spin my charming lil roulette , it lands upon a team and I give my run down upon it. Well onto the spin.

.........
and we have the Philedalphia Flyers.

With out question the flyers pulled off one of the biggest turn arounds in sports history last year. Going from a pathetic 56 point 22 win ending in the 06-07 to a incredible 95 point 42 win season in the 07-08. Once it was seen that they were on the decline their franchise immdiately remedied the situation with aggressive trading to ice a much improved team . Though far quieter this offseason we will see if the Flyers look even bettter this year.

Forwards(Projected Line Ups)
Gagne-Briere-Knuble
Hartnell-Richards-Lupul
Upshall-Carter-Downie
Cote-Metropolit-Asham

*Clap Clap Clap* The lone sound heard in the middle of the night from a darkened room , while a woman on the floor below yells at me to stop making so much noise. But I clap anyway , because I find this array of forwards to be incredibly impressive . A perfect blend of Vets and Youth , Grit and scoring ability . No doubt about it , goalscoring is not going to be a problem with this team . Being able to roll three scoring lines , all of which can and will play a physical game. With the addition of a solid checking line that pot some as well here and their as well.I really can not pick out a major flaw with thiis group of players , some may disagree but as I see it this is a very talented bunch that will probably get even more then the 245 Goals scored last season.

Defence(Projected Line Ups)
Timonen-Coburn
Jones-Eminger
Kukkonen-Hatcher

*Sounds of Silence* No love or appluase for the Flyrs D from me at the moment. While the forwards absolutely awed me , their D leaves me with the lonne thought of nedding more. This I suppose is the difference maker for a team like Detroit and the Flyers , each boasting incredible offence while only one can boast incredible D.

Not to say the D-corps is a bunch of garbage, far from it. But no body on that line really stands up and wows me in terms of skill-wise. But of course their is a bright spot , what they lack in skill , they will make up for it in pure punishment .They are gonna lay out a freight train for anyone stupid enough to walk into their zone with their head down . With the exception of Timonen every single one of them is over 6" and 200 pounds and can really hurt a man. So too sum them up, not the most skilled of lots. Though they should with their physical play be able to hold their blueline intact well enough to get them the wins in the regular seasons , but should look out for the faster and more skilled lines they will be sure to face with other teams in the east.

Goaltending
Biron
Nittymaki

Stability is the word that comes to mind when I look at the tandem between the pipes for the Flyers. Both Biron and Nittymaki are quality starters in the league , who can both equally get it done . Biron who is the acknowledged starter at the moment really shone last year , not so much in the regular season where he had a decent outing . But in the playoffs where he single-handedly kept the Flyers contention. As for Nittymaki , he to is a good goalie who after suffering a bit of a confidence break down after the disatser of the 06-07 season he when called upon last year was able to come in and provide the relief and take the win with grace and skill. Philly if it manages to retain both of these goalies after their contract years will have one of the best tandems for a few years to come.

Well that pretty much wraps it up for run downs , just need to make the ol' standing predictions.

Division-2nd
Conference-5th

Well as for the division good as they have become i don't yet see them sliding by Pittsburg , merely because of the D problems . As for the conference it is more or less the same thing , with Philly being good enough to jump up into the middle pack but not being stable enough in D to move solidly into top 4.

Well thats it for me tonight , until next time.

NOTE:Once more as always with my blogs remember this is merely opinion based and nothing more . Any comments and corrrections will be welcome , just keep it tasteful please.

You likely will not see Hatch as part of the defensive corps this year as he will be LTIR'd...add in Ossi Vanaan. Also downie may be hard pressed to make the big club...add in claude giroux instead.

i agree with manitobakid. but also i am not so sure kuk will be on the top 6 d pairs come opening night. i could see him being a number 7 or moved altogether. add either ryan parent or bryan berard. other than that, good job on the run down.

These are nice reads, but they'd be easier to go through, and look, dare I say, more "professional" if a spellcheck was done. Mozilla Firefox has an automatic spellchecker. Good stuff though.

Claude Giroux will be in the lineup.

You forgot the potential rookie of the year in Claude Giroux. Also, the Flyers finish 2nd or 4th in the conference barring many injuries. No way another teams beats them out at for the 4th seed, we're too talented and have too much depth.

I don't agree on your lines, but like your sentiment.I see:Gagne Briere HartnellLupul Richards UpshallGiroux Carter KnubleAsham Metro CoteI don't believe Downie makes this team out of camp.As for defense:Timonen VaananenCoburn JonesEminger/Parent/BerardVaananen was brought here to play with Timonen at even strength. I would rather have Timo or Coburn on the ice for 50 minutes.

I would be weary of being excited for Eminger in your D-corps. I watched that guy stink in DC since the end of the lockout. He was one of the Caps best defenders during the series against the Flyers, but 7 games doesn't make up for the 2 seasons he sucked in DC in my opinion.

Eminger needs a change of scenery though. He has the talent to be a top 4 d man in the league, he's good friends with Richards, and Stevens is real good with young players, and I trust Homer, so we'll see.

Eminger does need a change of scenery. I think top 4 D-man is a bit too lofty of an expectation for him, personally. He has nice size but he doesn't use it. Maybe Philly will pull more aggressiveness out of him. And he only has a 1 year deal, so if he doesn't work out, no big deal. Just don't be too hard on him when he makes one of his patented cross-ice-defensive-zone passes to a forechecker. :)

nah I think Eminger can eveolve into a top 4 D-man , he showed a flash of what he is capable of in the Playoffs , hence Holmgrem going after him as he saw first hand what he could do. Eminger will most likely build off that good play and carry it over to this season.

Its already been said but Giroux is in for Downie who will either be a 13th forward or will being the year in the AHL. Hatcher and his knees will be LTIR'd, plus with him being on LTIR it will allow the Flyers to not trade players to get under the cap. Also Kukkonen will more than likely be traded or be used as the 7th d-man this season. Look for Parent to take his spot and play with Eminger or Jones.
