The Lewiston Maineiacs on the strength of three staller goaltending performances are proving to be way too much for Val-dO'r in the QMJHL Championship series. Maineiacs goaltender, Jonathan Bernier was also named the CHL goaltender of the week for posting an 18 save shutout on Friday, followed by a 30 save performance on Saturday and a 26 save effort in game three last night. All of a sudden the goaltending fortunes of the Los Angeles Kings may not be so bleak, Bernier was the Kings first round selection in last June's NHL Entry Draft. The Maineiacs look to close out the series this evening in game four.
Meanwhile, Justin Donati was the overtime hero for the Sudbury. Donati's second goal of the game saved the Wolves the embarassment of coughing up a two-goal third period lead. Sudbury now leads the OHL Championship, best-of-seven series 2 games to 1 over the Plymouth Whalers. Game four takes place tonight at the Sudbury Community Arena.
Elsewhere, the Medicine Hat Tigers clawed their way to an overtime victory of the Vancouver Giants. Trevor Glass' blast from just in side the blueline beat Tyson Sexsmith just :32 into the first overtime period. The Giants seem to be doing their best Vancouver Canuck impression as they went 0-for-6 on the power play while the Tigers on the other hand managed to net 2 goals on four power play opportunities. Look for the action to heat up tonight as the Giants look for revenge in game four.
Go Giants Go!
