Pittsburgh (26-12-1) at Buffalo (23-11-4)
The Sabres entered tonight's game trailing the Penguins by three points in the Eastern Conference. Buffalo is coming off of a big win in St. Louis where Patrick Lalime earned a 5-3 win for Buffalo. Pittsburgh is coming off of a tough loss against Toronto. The Penguins tied the game late in the third, but Ian White scored with just a couple minutes remaining for the win.
The goaltender matchup looked to be a good one, but not so. Ryan Miller against Marc-Andre Fleury did not go as advertised.
Jordan Stall started the scoring with his 11th of the season to give Pittsburgh the early lead. Bill Guerin added another Penguins goal late in the second. Both teams had a number of chances, but it was Pittsburgh who came out on top 2-0 after the first. The Sabres were outshot 10-4 in the opening period.
Less than two minutes into the second period, Pittsburgh grabbed a three goal lead. Chris Kunitz fired a slap shot past Ryan Miller, ending the night for the Sabres goaltender. Miller stopped eight of 11 shots on the night.
Buffalo's biggest chance came during the second period, when the Sabres had the puck in the crease with the Fleury out of the net. Former Sabre Jay Mckee fell on the puck to prevent the Sabres first goal. However, Drew Stafford was awarded a penalty shot and a chance to break the shutout. Stafford took a wrist shot and beat Fleury five-hole to put Buffalo on the board.
Stafford wasn't done scoring. A little over two minutes later, he would tally his 9th of the season, putting the Sabres back to within one. Buffalo would get a chance to tie the game on a ensuing power play, but it was Pittsburgh with the best chance during those two minutes. The Penguins had a two on one, but as the player went to shoot it, his stick snapped in half, and the Sabres escaped a shorthanded goal against.
In the third, Buffalo rushed down the ice on a three on two, and guess who was there again. Stafford passed to Paul Gaustad in front of the net and just like that the Sabres tied the game at three. A few minutes later, the Sabres took the lead on what would be a game winning goal from Jason Pominville.
Patrick Lalime's performance was what won the game for Buffalo. He stopped all 27 shots after replacing Miller, leading his team to a comeback victory. The last time the Sabres came back from a three goal deficit to win a game was on January 16th, 2009, when the Buffalo beat Dallas 5-4.
Buffalo was outshot 38-24, but were able to edge out the Penguins for a huge win. Drew Stafford was the player of the night for Buffalo, earning three points and a plus two for the game. Gaustad and Pominville finished off the Penguins with two third period goals.

go staff...llllloooooonnnnnggggg overdue...thumbs up to sabres for two come-from-behind wins in a row
congrats, cisco...don't think you could've planned a better game to be at than the one tonight...you deserve it (even though you've moved over to "the dark side"--:)...hey kelly...you in d.c. yet?...homie...what up?...good call tonight...and...finally...derek roy is a cancer on this team...trade him asap :)
B0s are you done with Garth's blogs? Haven't seen you in awhile.
been around...reading posts...am relegated to posting here...(shrugs)...no biggie
Kaleta killed anyone yet?
lol...sure nice to be 12 points ahead of the rags this season...has the $3m pp/so-specialist left the pb yet?
if a team that has never won a Stanley Cup is happy just to be ahead of the Rangers in the standings, I'm afraid for ya....by the way, my account has been banned for two years, so I can't post anywhere other than these little blogs.
lol...nice knock at the sabres...of course, the rags are an original-six team and have one cup in the last 70 years while outspending nearly every team in the league during that span...neither here nor there, though...
I know, it's great that we are the only team without a salary cap and are outspending every other team in the league right now.
based upon payroll outlays this season, the rags are around top five with over $61m being paid this season for the team they're icing
do you just make up the term "payroll outlays"? based upon this current season's salary cap hit, currently the Rangers are at $55,653,859, the Sabres are at $56,352,940......CAPGEEK.com, suprised you never heard of it.
capGeek...one of your favorite geek-sites?...ever hear of the term "circumventing (use dictionnary if need be) the cap?...no wonder you were bannned...foolish arguments based upon a misunderstanding of simple english...their payoll (the amount they'll pay their players this season) is $61m
I am banned for posting pictures of Eklund......are the Rangers over the cap this season?
1999 Sabres, the team "robbed" of a Cup, haha, probably one of the teams of the last 20 years to make the finals with the least amount of home grown players.
lol...good for you...argument over...i made my point...regardless...the rags one one cup between 1940 and 2005...during that span, they've consistently been one of the biggest spenders in the league as they continually tried to buy a cup...worked once...good for them
if you think that the Rangers were one of the big spenders in the NHL between 1940 and the 1970's, you need a little lesson in NHL history that I just can't provide for you in this limited amount of space. But go look up how the Canadiens purchased an entire league to get the rights to Jean Beliveau, very interesting suff.
Damn B0s what did you do? Jimbo 2 years?? What could you possibly do to deserve that..
I posted pics of this hippie: http://www.greyeyeglances.com/photos/press_photos/DWAYNE.jpg
he looks like a keyboard-player
And something else? LOL
really nothing else, I have been banned for a week at a time here and there for starting shit with people like anyone else, but two years for posting his pic. This guy has a bit of an ego....he must have been a greta hall monitor in grade school.
lol...i guess this is the detention room...(shhhhh...quite...i think he's coming)
Thats pretty lame. Is he a blogger or ref?
This is like visiting the holding center lol You guys need smokes? Or we can send a cake with a file in it . just joking .carry on
hey soljor, any of the troops wanna visit us here in detention?

Nobody is around. The Sabre Board is slow all the time now. I could start a Free B0s chant. LOL
I don't understand why I can post on these things when I am banned....On twitter, this morning Eklund boasted about having satellite TV from canada on his laptop and I accused him of breaking the law.
lol...appreciate the support...(shrugs) no biggie tho...actually enjoying a life and have been hitting the sabres edge at the news site...throwin' around ideas there...still reading the posts, though
