With the Lewiston Maineiacs completion of a four game sweep in the QMJHL Championship series, the attention of the CHL falls squarely on the WHL and OHL finals.
The Sudbury Wolves and Plymouth Whalers face off this evening in game five of the OHL Championship series. The game is just underway and the visiting Wolves scored 1:51 into the first period of play. Plymouth forward Jared Boll now has a 5 minute fighting penalty as well as the game-tying goal mid way through the opening period. Check the OHL website for up to date scores and details.
Meanwhile on the west coast the city of Vancouver gears up for game five between the hometown Giants and the Medicine Hat Tigers. I have been searching for details as to wether or not Tigers forward Derek Dorsett has received any additional discipline from the league after Dorsett proceeded to chomp on Kendall McArdle's hand in game four. The result of his actions will mean the Tigers will be without the 5' 11" 178lbs 21 year-old for this evenings contest. Dorsett had 14 point in the Tigers 15 playoff contests this spring.
Despite a rather defensive series the Giants Michal Repik has continued his strong offensive play and leads the WHL in playoff scoring with 24 points in 19 playoff games. Repik who is also riding a six game scoring streak, is slated to go as a late second round selection in this summers NHL Draft.
As for the Tigers leading playoff point-getter, Darren Helm has been held off the scoresheet for the first four games of this series. Helm who currently has 20 playoff points in 15 games is a Detroit Red Wings draft choice (5th Round, 132 Overall in 2005)
Plymouth out shoots Subbury 81 - 35!! I was at game one and at that point it looked like the only way SUD stayed in this series was if Dahm stood on his head.. I guess he played well tonight :)
