Last night I decided to spend some time with the fiancé as today happens to be her birthday and well with all this hockey lately, I am sure that you all understand. We watched an pretty good flick, Smokin' Aces, its a typical mob movie but in the end it looks like the directors wanted a 'shoot em up' movie and just threw together a story line.
Enough blabbing already, I recieved a message late last night regarding the OHL Final between Sudbury and Plymouth. Wolves goaltender Sebastian Dahm faced 81 shots and stopped 77 of them as Plymouth took control of the series 3 games to 2. Now you might think that maybe the game was a four period marathon but it wasn't, which makes Dahm's performance even more impressive. This guy faced 28 shots in the first period, 18 in the second, 16 in the third and 19 before Dan Collins of the Whalers ended the game at 13:34 of the first overtime period.
Meanwhile at the other end of the ice, Michal Neuvirth faced 35 shots. Goaltenders, as we all know, are a strange bunch. I wonder if Neuvirth was feeling any remorse for Dahm while he looked upon from the other end. I am in total shock just reading the game logs on this performance. I looked up Dahm's profile on the Wolves' web site and it turns out that the 20 year-old from Denmark is undrafted. You have to feel for guys like this, sure it's one performance and I have never seen the guy play, but he must be one Dahm good goaltender and he doesn't even have a professional contract, he isn't even on any professional clubs prospect list. Game six goes tomorrow night in Sudbury.
In other news, the Vancouver Giants completed their second straight shutout against the Medicine Hat Tigers in the WHL Championship final. A.J. Thelen, Wacy Rabbit, and Spencer Mahachek scored for the Giants in the 3 - 0 victory. The Giants now have control of the series with a 3 - 2 lead as the clubs head back to 'The Hat' for game six (Sunday) and possibly seven (Tuesday).
Fantastic goaltending from Dahm last night, if it wasn't for him the game was a blow-out. Congrats on the win for Plymouth, they really deserved that one. And Smokin' Aces was a great movie, good action and a nice little twist at the end. One of Ryan Reynolds best performances IMO :D
the problem with Dahm is that he is INCREDIBLY short.. like REALLY short.. When I saw him in person his shoulders BARELY cleared the cross bar.. he is listed as 5'11 but he doesn't look much taller than the 5'6 Jeff Lerg of national champion Michigan State fame.. Just ask any Wings fan what they think of short goalies (ie. Legace)..
