Sophomore Slump For Myers?

It’s no secret that Tyler Myers had a terrific rookie season last year with the Buffalo Sabres. He recorded 11 goals and 37 assists and played in all 82 games. To complete the phenomenal season, he was awarded with the Calder Trophy as Rookie of the Year.

The 20 year old towering defenseman played just as big as his height as he lead the team in ice time per game. Myers is considered significantly ahead of his game and has been compared to guys like Chris Pronger and Zdeno Chara but far better for his age then they were.

Many NHL players have struggled coming off of their rookie season. Will this season be a rough patch for Myers? Sabres fans hope that he doesn’t struggle, but it might be inevitable.

Myers will not have his partner from last year in Henrik Tallinder. Myers and Tallinder worked very well together and they brought out the best in each other. Will Myers still be effective without Tallinder? We will have to see how this season plays out.

This guys just jumps out at you when he plays. I dont see a slump from him. His number might drop as coaches pay more attention to him, but not a large amount. He has speed, a great shot, and actually plays defense too - unlink Mike Green.

Are you serious? The only reason Tallinder had a decent year is because he played with Myers; not the other way around

an 82-game schedule is totally different than anything he'd ever seen in the "w"...that in and of itself is probably why he tapered off at the end of the season and into the playoffs...i think he's smart enough to adapt and adjust, though...

the myers/tallinder-pairing was good and they played really well...am of the opinion that regier and co. figured myers can play with any d-man...that's why they didn't feel it necessary to re-sign hank at any price...(personally, i'm glad he's gone simply for the fact that he was such a wuss)

gotta be somewhat troubled, though, with his potential d-partner...the choices right now are leopold and buts...possibly sekera or weber...

don't know much about leopold, seems as if he's a big-minute/zhitnik-type...seems to fit right in with the vanilla core...would like to see what buts can do with myers...he's played big minutes and i think he's got alot of hockey-sense, despite the last season

sekera would be interesting, but i think he'll end up in the lower-pairings...then there's weber...had a stellar year in the "a" last season after an injury-plagued 08/9...can he log top-minutes?...can he hang with the big-guns?...can he catch up with the speed of the nhl?...we know he's a tough, ornery s.o.b, but can he be an asset with the big-club?

one thing i truly believe...myers is good enough to elevate his partner's play a notch or two...leopold, buts, sekera and weber will all see there game go up...just like hank did...myers is that good
