My apologies for avoiding the site the past few days. In fact, for once in my life hockey has not been the first thing on my mind.
Sunday afternoon has become a blur, Monday? don't even ask. Please allow a mulligan on this one...
Yesterday morning as we made our way to work, we received a phone call. Yes, a phone call at 6:00 am is usually a phone call that you are not expecting and a phone call that you are not too fond of. But not this one.
My sister-in-law was starting to have contractions. It had been nine months in the waiting and finally my sister-in-law was having contractions. At this point it was still in the early stages, approximately an hour apart, but from the sound in her voice, the baby was coming and she was coming fast.
I called my brother at work at about 10:30am, with an assured grin on his face he informed me that they were taking a trip to the doctors office to find out how serious these contractions are. After a visit to the doctor's office at about 11:00am it was determined that it was too early to take the trip to the hospital. So the day dragged on some more as the family became more anxious, or so I thought.
You see, my brother being the devious one in the family, convienently forgot to call my mother and father (the grandparents to be....for the first time!) to inform them of the situation.
Following my eight-hours of work I was summoned to help my father help him with some good old-fashioned home reno's. The entire time (considering the information that I had at my dissposal) I had to keep busy so that I was not put in to the awkward position of having to discuss a certain baby situation. After completing the removal of some 30+ year old cupboards the phone rang! Me being the closest to the phone picked up the horn and said "Hello?". On the other end of the line was my brother...you guessed it...15 mins apart!
I asked him if he would like to speak to our mother about the situation.
It was now time for me to return to my apartment on the other side of town before I was skinned by the mother beast for witholding this information.
I battled the 45min of traffic (which consisted of about 3km of distance), I arrived home, settled in for dinner and the phone rang!
4 mins apart, I need to get to the hospital. It is now 7:20pm PST and I have yet to watch a minute of the Stanley Cup final and I could seriously care less.
We wisk are selves off to the hospital and after about 3 and a half hours, my first niece was born. A beautiful 7 lbs 6 oz baby girl.
Nevermind the miracles that take place on the ice or on the field, the miracle of life brings an entire new outlook on everything. Happy Birthday Baby Keira!
Congratulations!!
Congratulation Uncle Luongo07
