Coming off of the worst season of his career with the New York Islanders, Martin Biron will be looking for a new contract this Summer. General Manager Darcy Regier wouldn't comment on Biron, but said the Sabres will need a veteran goalie.
It couldn't be better timing. Patrick Lalime's two-year contract comes to an end this year, giving Buffalo a couple of options for a backup goaltender.
Two years ago, the Sabres had the exact same decision to make, but Biron signed with the Islanders.
The Sabres missed a great chance to rectify their weakness by signing Marty Biron. The Sabres should have been actively communicating with Biron throughout free agency. He was a well loved and well respected player in Buffalo. He brought a certain amount of "swagger" to the team, and was loved by his fellow players.
He was a leader in both the locker room and on the ice. Watching Biron sign to the last place Islanders for a paltry 1.4 million dollars should be seen as a hugh missed opportunity for Buffalo two years ago.

I wouldn't see why not getting him back in Buffalo. He's the type of guy that can calm his teammates if they were trailing a game or in a slump. A good all round team guy. It depends on how Buffalo feels though, they may look elsewhere in the league.
Actually Biron was still under contract by philly two years ago. he only signed a one year deal with the Isle. that was the only snag that buffalo had with signing him last summer, was that lalime was still under contract. if they would have had their choice between biron and lalime the previous season, things may have gone differently.....
I honestly see you guys as his only option... No one wanted him last off season
nobody wanted him because of his contract demands. He thought he deserved 4-5 million a season. If he takes a role as a back up I am sure he would go to Buffalo. If he wants to start thats a different story.
Can't wait to see the new team next year. I can see us really improving through free agent signings and blockbuster trades. Biron is only the first one. The Sabres will also bring in Michael Peca, Jason Dawe, Vaclav Varada, Geoff Sanderson, Stu Barnes, Daryl Shannon, Jay McKee, and Rory Fitzpatrick. If the Biron thing doesn't happen, maybe we can get Mika Noronen. C'mon... I wish the Biron to Buffalo thing would die already. Might happen, but it's getting old.
@keptupl8Thing is, this team needs a few players like Peca, Sanderson, Barnes
screw it. why does only a fragment of my post show???
marty was great a few years back...couldn't be any worse than t-bow, conks or lalime...since he left, the best back-up the sabres had was mikael tellqvist...granted, it was only for a handful of games, but it seemed as if the players and coaches trusted him in that role...he's over in russia after playing in sweeden on a one-year contract this past season...telly back in buffalo, plz
MC - I'll take Peca and Barnes. Sanderson was a better Sabre-killer than a Sabre.
It's not that I don't like Biron... I'm just sick of hearing it. He had another shot to grab a #1 spot and lost out to Rollie the goalie. If he has any chance of competing for a starting job, he will take that over Buffalo. If he's still on the market in late August and we are still short a goalie, then maybe I would want to see it happen. Otherwise, thanks for the memories
boos, how the hell are you?
