I cannot believe I even have to say this...but I've just lost all respect for Daniel Alfredsson. In case you think I've always disliked him, simply refer back to almost every playoff blog to see how I've talked about him. What in the world was he thinking? He went completely off the reservation. The shot at Scott Niedermayer was crazy enough...but then he goes and punches another Duck? Unbelievable! I simply do not get it...I can see that type of stupidity from Neil...but not from the captain...especially to another captain. A phenomenal post-season hero turned classless jerk...what a shame!
He "went off the reservation?" Is Alfie a Native American now or is that just some great slang term you pulled out there? What he did, however, I agree was classless.
well, zholtok, i think nephew has seen wedding crashers.
I have seen Wedding Crashers...its great...but please don't tell me this is the first time either of you have heard the phrase "off the reservation?" I certainly didn't just pull it out and no, Alfie is not Native American...that I know of. I think you know it means "lost his mind," "snapped," "went off the deep end," etc...all synonomous with "off the reservation!" Thanks for your excellent critique!
Put me down as one who does not think it was classless. For anyone to single out retaliation in crucial matches like the Stanley Cup Final as an unusual act for a player, is not seeing all the ice. There have been many good players, of good character who have thought of taking another players head off (my slang!). And a few of those have come close to it. It is the ones who actually do who are wrong and know they are wrong. Alfie was frustrated and if anyone goes back over the tapes of the game and watches the interactions of Neid and Alf perhaps a better understanding will emerge. (Did I spear? twice...)
