Stupid and Ignorant

The banana peel throwing incident from last night's Flyer's game is the most recent event that has me fuming at how completely ignorant and stupid some people are.

And it's a problem that only seems to be getting worse.

Maybe I am way too old fashioned, but whatever happened to the adage:
"If you don't have anything nice to say...then keep your ****ing mouth shut!"

Ok...so the adage is NOT really as I typed it, but it seems the only way to get through to the cranially challenged is to act the same way.

Last night's display of complete stupidity was another "anonymous" comment from the peanut gallery of fools. Someone hiding in the stands...throwing out the garbage...just like people hide behind their keyboards and throw out insults and accusations littered with four letter words and a lack of common sense and common decency that makes we wonder if our society isn't completely effin' doomed.

I know there are some that will think I'm over-reacting...but I don't think I am.

Read Yahoo hockey comments...
Watch the local news...

Ughhhh....

We live in world where now it seems "acceptable"...even "expected"...that we are supposed to...

TWEET our every move
video tape and share every experience
comment on everything we see and hear

And the worst part is that TOO FEW of us put any kind of thought into what we say or how we say it. We just say it...with all the frontal lobe power of a teenager having a tantrum...we filter none of it.

Hell, we are often even ENCOURAGED to spice things up...just to make it more interesting, because you know you won't get noticed unless you are controversial in some way.

All it takes is that kind of mentality...plus electronic devices out the whazu that enable us to comment 24/7...and you have the country living on the idea that our society is a 24/7/365 version of the JERRY SPRINGER SHOW.

(I wanted to use effin' again beteween Jerry and Springer...but this is a PG-13 column)

I don't know who threw the peel on the ice...but I do know what was implied.

The irony in that is the guy (or girl) who threw it is the one the gesture really applies to.

I know I'm not going to change the world for the better from this blog...only 4 people read it. But sometimes it feels good to THINK through something and make a comment.

I can only hope that the MILLIONS of people who comment every day in our new "networked media society" will eventually see the value in doing the same thing.

Maybe if we all start feeling like there is some good that comes from thinking about what we do and say...before we do or say it...we can stop acting like we just fell out of a tree.
