Crosby, Ek and the NHL

Posted 9:05 AM ET | Comments 29
Let me get a few important things out of the way...

First off, I want Crosby back and playing hockey in the NHL as badly as anyone else who enjoys watching the best skilled players play the game. I think he is important to the game, right now at least, because he was viewed by many as the best player in the game prior to his concussion(s) suffered last year. How can he not be important to the league and the game of hockey is this is/was so?

Second, I know a lot of people are thinking "poor Sid" right now...and as far as his NHL hockey career goes, that's not really an exaggerated sympathy. Without doubt, the resumption of his hockey career is very much in question because he, and his doctors, just don't know when it will happen. Obviously, the longer it takes to figure out WHEN, the more people will start to speculate IF it will ever happen. As bad as that may sound, it's not the end of the world. Much more importantly, the rest of his life, his non-hockey life, seems to be normal.

Third, people who wish bad things for anybody because they don't like a person's style or don't think a particular person is deserving of attention that they get, and then spend a lot of time complaining or analyzing that person, really need to spend at least as much time examining themselves. People who post hate videos that target Eklund or Crosby - or anybody else for that matter - should put the same time, thought and effort into looking in the mirror to find out why they feel so strongly in such a negative way. Unless these particular people you target with your anger are negatively impacting your life on a daily basis, in a way that YOU CANNOT CONTROL, you have to see that YOU ARE THE PROBLEM, NOT THEM. Eklund and Crosby are NOT terrorists or dictators. Honestly, if you don't like them, ignore them. If you see another Crosby article on a hockey site, and it makes you so angry that you get out your video camera and record a Youtube video about it, maybe you should speak to a professional counselor. Seriously.

With all of that said...

I think Crosby's current situation should help change the NHL...but it should be because of ALL THE OTHER PLAYERS that have been down this road before...those who had to quit the game due to their injuries. Some of those guys are still suffering from what happened to them.

It's POSSIBLE, that Sid will never play again...sure it is. But right now, the good news is, the rest of his life seems to be normal.

Can the same thing be said for Marc Savard?

As much as I want Crosby back, what I really want is roll back the clock and change the rules to BEFORE the Cooke hit on Savard. Or better yet, before the countless other hits that were questionable and caused damage to athletes who then tried to play the game again before they were truly healed.

Would that have stopped Matt Cooke? Nobody knows for sure, but it might have.

In some ways, Crosby SHOULD BE no more important than any other NHL player.

But right now, he should be THE MOST IMPORTANT NHL player when it comes to this issue and the NHL doing the best it can to 1) eliminate the types of borderline hits that lead to many of the concussions we have seen and 2) ensure that players who have or are suspected of having a concussion receive the proper medical treatment and are not allowed to resume playing until they are 100% healthy.

Not recognizing Crosby's importance, at this particular time, would be a dis-service...an injustice even...to everybody on the list below...

Marc Savard
Paul Kariya
Pat LaFontaine
Dave Scatchard (edit)
Eric Lindros
Brett Lindros
Adam Deadmarsh
Jeff Beukeboom
Keith Primeau
Mike Richter
Geoff Courtnall
Mathew Barnaby
Steve Moore
Scott Stevens
Steve Dubinsky
Stu Grimson
Peter Svoboda
Rob DiMaio

...and EVERYBODY who plays the game going forward...

You tell em, Steve Dave! Your pseudo-psycho babble makes me want to be a better person. Teach me to be like you!

Your user ID tells the whole story.

It sure does, now get to it!

How creative...you should write children's stories.

I would say that I wouldn't want to eat into your demographic but you don't seem to have any other readers, lol

Well, at least that response showed some promise. The majority of what I wrote wasn't about 'self-help'...but for some reason that struck a chord with you. I ain't hatin'...just sayin'

Promise? Baby, I'm sizzlean! Yeah, the reason that the self-help garbage struck a chord with me is because I doubt you have the credentials to dish it out and, even if you do, it doesn't belong on a B level hockey blog. Woot!?
August 26, 2011 10:54 AM ET | Delete
I am not sure what credentials are necessary to say that someone should take a look at themselves? Probably nothing more than what's required for you to rate my hockey blog as B level, right?
August 26, 2011 11:55 AM ET | Delete
It's not a subjective quality - your blog is B level is an objectively agreed upon, quantitative, empirical fact. You are blogging on a site with a main blogger who is at the top of the main page and secondary bloggers below. Your blog is relegated to the ancillary nothing in the corner. If anything, calling this a B level blog is a compliment!

yet you still find the need to click on it, read it, and post. Your comments are D level at best. Still you can print them out and hang them on your refrigrator so mommy can be proud when she goes down into the basement aka your apartment.

Basement!? Pfft! I don't live in my parents basement. I live above the garage.

"If anything, calling this a B level blog is a compliment!" --- Well then, thanks for the compliment! Seriously, I am supposed to believe that what is written by someone who wants others to know him as 'Suckmysweatybawls' is of relevance to me?
August 26, 2011 12:16 PM ET | Delete
You have already responded more than a few times to what I've written so I would argue that what I have written and, by extension, I am already of relevance to you :) Thanks! <3

Ah yes...saw that one from a mile away. Let's put it into perspective...slow day here...not much going on...responding to these comments has passed the time a little more quickly. So yes, in the very recent past, you have been of relevance. But in the long run...not so much. Your assessment of my blog is what it is...your free speech opinion...nothing more...nothing less.

Ditto (like from Ghost cause you love me)
August 26, 2011 12:53 PM ET | Delete
Your relevance to him is like a turd that wouldnt go down on the first flush.
August 26, 2011 1:04 PM ET | Delete
Hey, no fair sicking your super smart sidekick on me! Ouch, don't you know words are hurtful? Didn't you read the blog?
August 26, 2011 1:17 PM ET | Delete
"Ditto (like from Ghost cause you love me)"...hmmm...I am starting to think that 'Suckmysweatybawls' is more of your alter-ego...isn't it? I mean that's a pretty revealing comment...that you watched Ghost...and would be familiar enough with it to quote it here. I think deep down you are really a sensitive and caring person. Now I feel badly having misjudged you.

Swayze is a god. Fast forward to 2:25 if you don't believe me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpmILPAcRQo

and dave scatchard just retired from the game due to results of multiple concussions. I am worried for Crosby.

Swayze is a god. Fast forward to 2:25 if you don't believe me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpmILPAcRQo - I don't know what's more surprising...this comment or the fact that the video has been viewed 105 MILLION times.
August 26, 2011 1:40 PM ET | Delete
Come on, look at that sexy, sexy dance he does. He's so sexy. Don't pretend you're not fully aroused. I know I was until Dee Karl commented.
August 26, 2011 1:47 PM ET | Delete
Sweaty - you are starting to scare me because not only am I wondering if Sweaty is an alter ego, but I am also feeling some kind of gender conflict going on. Personally, Patrick (GRHS) never did anything for me. I have never seen Dirty Dancing or Ghost. Of course I have seen him in Youngblood, Roadhouse and Red Dawn.
August 26, 2011 1:53 PM ET | Delete
Dee - I think there was some article written last season that was speculative...not sure where I saw it...but it said Crosby may have suffered multiple concussions prior to his NHL career. Certainly it could explain why this issue has persisted and threatens this season for him (maybe longer). Sorry...should have included Dave in my list too.
August 26, 2011 1:53 PM ET | Delete
There's no gender confusion. I'm just comfortable enough in my masculinity that I can admit to being overflowing with horny juice at the sight of Patrick Swayze. And if you don't like it you should just ignore it or seek the help of a professional counselor.
August 26, 2011 1:57 PM ET | Delete
"And if you don't like it you should just ignore it or seek the help of a professional counselor."...almost fell out of my chair...thanks for that...

Wow, you spent four hours in a pissing contest during the middle of the day on a friday. I feel bad for you. Get a job.
August 27, 2011 12:36 PM ET | Delete
4 hours is the span of the messages...clearly not equivalent to time spent.

Well said and thanks
