Four games into the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals match-up between the Penguins and Flyers -- and
just about anybody that thought they had a clue how this series would turn out is simply at a loss for a reasonable explanation to what we have seen so far.
Each game has been it's own little anomaly.
Going into Wednesday night's 'do or die game' for the Penguins, I expected to see one of two things;
1) a close game, possibly to OT, that the Penguins would win or
2) a game like we had seen through the first three of the series and the Flyers throwing another snowman up on the scoreboard
I certainly wasn't expecting the Penguins to put up their own snowman...plus 2...or for the
score to look like a game that had been played between the Steelers and the Eagles.
Needles to say, the 10-3 final fit right into the general flow of the series to date...
Expect the Unexpected.
Nobody expected the Penguins to be down 3 games to 0 going into Wednesday night's game.
Nobody expected there to be 45 goals scored in 4 games.
Nobody expected the
best save percentage in the series to be .844
That's why heading into tongiht's do or die game 5 (hmmm, they are all from now on, aren't they?) I'd like to stand on my pedestal (I am laughing at that as I type it) and make some grand prediction that turns out to be true.
I'd like to, but the problems with that are twofold...
1) My pedestal is...well...I don't have one...and
2) I don't think I could tell you what specifically will happen in tonight's game with any greater accuracy than
Kim Kardashian could tell you the last time she bought something she NEEDED.
Still, I have tried to consider what might happen that I would find -- unexpected -- and given what we have seen so far that's not really a very easy thing to do.
About the best I could come up with was this:
The series goes 7 games, and each of the next three are 1-0, triple overtime thrillers with the goalies standing on their heads.
I am guessing that type of outcome would be necessary for the goalies in this series to somehow post save percentages in the .900's
Hold on a second...I need to get up off the floor.
Obviously, as a Penguins fan, I am hoping that somehow what happened in the last game provides momentum and we can head back to Philly Sunday for game 6. While going back to Philly for another game seems like something you would only wish upon your enemy, in this case the alternative is even less appealing...FORE!
Most people still feel that the outcome of this series is inevitable and the Pegnuins, by winning tonight, would only prolong the agony.
I realize from a Penguins fan perspective, this series has been three parts agony and one part joy - and vice versa for the Flyers fans -
but apparently for everybody else who has watched
it's been highly entertaining. Entertaining enough that they probably wish this series would go on indefinitely.
Penguins versus Flyers - the TV Series...now that would be unexpected.
Maybe, in the grand scheme of things, that's all we can really predict about game 5...
We expect it to be entertaining
Thanks for reading!!!

Nah, I wouldnt say its highly entertaining. Its just fun to watch the Pens implode then lose. A sweep would've been nice but I guess we will have to accept a 4-1 series loss, damn!
I think the Isles have a good shot at 9th place in the East next year.
Really, I'm thinking we'll be in the lottery again...
top five that is or bottom five if you know what I mean....
