Happy long weekend puckheads!!!
-I have been playing NHL08's demo almost non stop since it became available. The skating engine is unreal, as is the AI for the computer controlled players. It's a free download on XBox Live, for your 360 console. Well worth a DL and play for free.
-Speaking of the NHL games this year, the date for NHL 2K8 was bumped up to September 10th. So far, I have not seen a demo for the 2K version, although the movies available on line look pretty sweet.
-Kudos to the NHL for suspending Mark Bell indefinitely. Conduct such as his should not be tolerated. I think he's a guy that made a mistake, but hopefully, this suspension and jail term-which is scheduled for next summer-will convince him to straighten up and fly right. Bell could be a special player if he'd just find some consistency.
-One more week and we should know what Teemu Selanne will be doing. It's hard not to like the Finnish Flash, and as a fan, I'd love to see him return. My ample gut says he'll retire, mainly because I don't see how the Ducks can jigger the cap to keep him-ESPECIALLY if Scotty Niedermayer pulls a Roger Clemens(or Peter Forsberg, if you will) and sits out half a season, then returns.
-Anybody else wish Don Maloney would wake up and get the ball rolling on some of these rumors? A ridiculous number of teams seem to be waiting on Phoenix to swing a trade to add some salary and presumably set a massive ball of movement off heading into camp.
-Speaking of sh*t or get off the pot, Danny Markov....SIGN A DEAL!!!!
-Thanks to the poster who put the photo of the Flyers new RBK Edge jersey photo in Tim Panaccio's blog this past weekend. I like it because it's somewhat close to the old jersey and simplistic. Some teams tried to do too much and ended up with a disaster. Orca Bay doesn't own the Canucks anymore, do they?...can't we retire Skippy the Brain Damaged Whale, please?
-What's the deal with all these young Calgary prospects heading to Russia? Is Iron Mike really that bad? This was something I worried about for the NHL when the adopted the cap-losing good players to Europe because teams get maxed out.
-Eric Lindros is rumored to be retiring to help run the NHLPA. God help that organization if Carl Lindros ends up pulling the strings. Eric Lindros seems to be a good guy that never managed to cut the apron strings and his family never seemed to be able to separate personal and business relationships. Criticism, right or wrong, was taken as a personal attack on Eric or his folks. Imagine such an issue during negotaitions for a new CBA....
-I am still taking movie suggestions, please PM them to me or put in a comment with a title suggestion. I will carry this for, maybe, two more blogs before putting the top three up for a final vote. So far,
Slapshot has gotten a lot of attention, for some reason.
-Yes that was sarcasm....
-If you are a member of this site, why not join facebook.com and jump into the HockeyBuzzards group there? There's a whole load of us there that trade photos and jokes and junk.
-I spoke to Eklund on his Hockeybuzz talk cast about forming a HockeyBuzz NHL08 League for XBOX 360. I think such a league would be a huge hit, More to come on this in the near future. I also highly recommend checking out the Talkcasts on Talkshoe.com-Ek provides the links in his blog. It's free to register and you can talk to Ek and his guests for the day.
-OK enough pimping. That's all I have for ya this time.
Another fun blog GS....I'm looking forward what happens when you turn green!!!
Imagine I start puking soon afterwards, Scoop
I have been playing the NHL 08 demo as well, I still haven't got used to it yet, only played 2 or 3 games and lost them all to the stupid ducks. When it comes out we should play on Xbox live sometime.
Great job buddy your the best
Thanks Flamestr
Nice work as always JS! I cannot wait to see you in your new green suit...keep the p*mp hand strong, brother! Loved your random thoughts column and it is now a fixture in the HB stratosphere!!SYF
Thanks SYF...I am part of the stratosphere?
I will join the league. And the demo is great. Love the new deke moves and blocking passes
Awesome blog JS...your quick and to the point. Always enjoy reading your work!!
Hi JS. Not necessarily a movie for your list, but a hockey connection with Robert Mitchum in the 1973 gangster flick, the excellent "The Friends of Eddie Coyle". An interesting scene with "Fingers" Coyle and some of his pals at a Bruins hockey game in Boston Garden...don't remember who the opponent was...
Nice work!
