Not too much to say about last night's Flyers-Stars tilt in South Philadelphia, except that rookie Dennis Tolpeko was the only Flyer that seemed willing to give a full effort on every shift.

Riley Cote also will likely be the fifth Flyer suspended this year, after leaving his feet to toss a high elbow with three minutes remaining. To his credit, Cote called the hit "stupid", however, he repeated the "finishing my check" refrain that seems to be repeated more than "Stairway To Heaven" on a classic rock station.

Last blog I decried the NHL for not being consistent on suspensions and on ice enforcement. Now, that another player on my favorite team is likely to be suspended and I feel a sense of embarrassment and anger.

I'll take it upon myself to call on NHL Lord of Discipline to hand down a suspension to Cote-IMO it should be at least 2 games-and to fine the Flyers organization and head coach John Stevens.

Coach Stevens has done a very good job thus far, but he's in charge of a team that has had a run of cheapshots and dirty hits. That simply can not continue. Stevens said he doesn't want his team to be viewed as a goon squad. Then he needs to do something.

It's getting to be ridiculous.

I was spurred to this by a comment I made in chat last night-I said I'd be happy if Dallas didn't score a fifth goal and the Flyers didn't have another questionable hit...

Agreed JS - great post and I believe you are dead on. This team is out of control at the worst times in games and are now causing refs to "look" for the Flyers. You cannot tell me that the increased scrutiny is not showing up in more minor penalties against. They are hurting themselves and they will pay.By the way, I could not agree more that eliminating the instigator rule would go a long way towards the players policing themselves and removing the burden from the Lord of Discipline. If guys knew that they were going to be hammered the next time they stepped foot on the ice, I think these cheap/stupid headshots might go the way of the dinosaurs much more quickly. Stevens needs to stop this pronto.Nice work JSSYF

I'm totally disgusted with the Flyers right now. That should last until about . . . . Wednesday at 8 p.

great thoughts, js. at some point someone in that organIzation has to do something before the media and the refs take everything away from what should be a great team.

Great job JS. I agree with you something needs to be done NOW. Stevens should do a checking drill with all the players arms tied to their sides and "Don't hit me here" stickers all over their helmets and back. It's a stupid suggestion, I know, but at this point the old tactics aren't working. If nothing else since we are on the road the next two games we can expect them to play like they care. After that god help us, three at home.

i was at the game and man was i unhappy. dont forget eager was out of control too - a bad charging minor and a second charging penalty which should have been boarding. this team is getting out of control and everyone on the ice is suffering because of it. Tolpeko was the only Flyer who really stood out as having a great game, as the kid has his big shot with the NHL club and is really making sure to give them reasons to not send him back down. Oh and near the end, what the hell was with the offsetting penalty to Briere for roughing when he was the one that got shoved to the ice? I guess I just dont get the officiating sometimes.
