Mason In Net Tonight...

Chris Mason will be back in goal tonight for the Predators as they face the Calgary Flames at the Saddledome. Tonight begins the first of a stretch of five road games for the Predators and all are against worthy opponents. No off nights here. The Western Canada swing is always a tough one for any team then they follow it up with stops in Chicago and Detroit before heading home.

Coach Barry Trotz is trying to put an end to any talk of a goalie controversy here in Nashville by giving the start to Mason following two terrific starts by back up Dan Ellis. Trotz sounded very positive about Mason and his belief that he is still their number one.

"I don't question Chris Mason," Trotz said. "He has worked at his craft to become a consistent goaltender, and he has tremendous character. If you want to describe what hockey player’s intangibles should be - the competitiveness, the enthusiasm, the work ethic, all those things that make the substance of a player - he has all of those."

That is exactly what Trotz needed to say. Mason is the man...unless he continues to flounder in start after start. We, as Pred fans, know how good he can be now its time for Mason to remember that as well.

I wish tonight's game was on FSN because I would love to see if the D plays better for Mason than they have been. I guess I’ll be listening. 8:30 central start on 104.5 The Zone.
