Wow....a .500 record has never looked so good. After a six game losing streak that had many Preds fans on suicide watch the Preds have turned their season around. Sparked by the great goaltending by Dan Ellis the Preds are in the midst of a 3 game winning streak and have won 5 of their last six. So, what has happened that has caused this turn around.
Dan Ellis: This guy has come in and done what every team wishes their back up could do and thats win games. He has done so in dramatic fashion with a 4-0 record and 1.35 GAA, .952 Save % and tow shutouts. While Trotz has not given up on Chris Mason Dan Ellis is making his case for number one.
Team D: The boys have really eliminated many of the odd man chances that had plagued them early on this season. While the wide open Blackhawks gave them some fits last night the Preds have done a good job of trying to stay on the puck and not cheat.
Solid PK: While some of the recent PK results are because of the stellar goaltending of Ellis the Preds have done a good job in recent games of battling the PK. If the goaltending stays solid the Preds should be a top 10 unit at years end.
Next up for the Preds is a trip to Detroit to face the division leading Red Wings on Wednesday night. 6:30 start on FSN.
Several positives, the big one obviously being the needed "W"'s, but we still have some glaring holes such as sloppy D with the puck (and a couple of lapses by Chris with poor passes last night that could have easily resulted in Hawk goals.) If we can keep working and clean up some of the mental lapses we'll have a good run. Also, here's to hoping that Alexander's energy and enthusiasm continues to inspire the rest of our hockey club.
And, of course, solid goaltending from Chris and Dan will be absolutely necessary for further success. Go Preds!
