What used to be known as 'The Joe Sakic' show comes to town tonight as the Colorado Avalanche come to the Sommet Center to finish off the Preds four game home stand. Sakic is nursing a groin injury and will be out of action here in Nashville but that doesn't mean that this team is without firepower. Paul Stasney is picking right up where his 78 point rookie campaign left off. Stasney leads the team in goals (13), assists (26) and points and has turned into the number one option for this team.
Pred killer Milan Hejduk, big Ryan Smyth and former Pred Andrew Brunette all are producing for the Av's this year who head into tonight's game just 3 points ahead of the Preds with 33 points in the ninth spot and two games in hand. The Av's lost last night in Columbus 4-1. No clear cut number one has emerged in goal with Peter Budaj and Jose Theodore posting near identical numbers this season. Theodore started last night so my guess is that we see Budaj tonight.
While I wouldn’t call this a 'must win' I would say that this is the type of game that the Preds have to win: A team just ahead of them in the standings and at home. Columbus beat the Av's with aggressive play from their defense. We have that...we just need to play that way.
We most definitely need a win tonight. The Avs will be looking to avenge their early season shutout loss to the Preds.
Plus they will be playing hard after a 4-1 beat down at the hands of Columbus last night. They should be a cranky team tonight!
