If this rumor of the Rangers exploring the possibility of brining Jay Bouwmeester to NY progresses, than I just want to get some feed back for both fan bases. I think the deal makes a lot of sense for both teams. The Panthers could use some young depth players to mesh with their young rising core. I would hate to loose him but Florida could ask for Brandon Dubinky who is lighting up the worlds playing with David Booth. That's 3 quarters of a young scary line already set up . I'd hate to lose Duby but we are talking about one of the young premier defenseman that can hit and can man the PP fro this Rangers team. Having him play on the first or second line gives the Rangers two nice offensive threats on the point, assuming the Rangers take the brakes of Marc Staal. If the Rangers add an Orpik or Ron Hainsey to pair up with one of those players, the Rangers could have serious balance. That's Tyutin,Girardi,Staal, and Bouwmeester mixed in with Henrik Lundqvist as the last line of defense not too bad.
If Florida does ask for Dubinsky,it does allow the Rangers a roster spot to maintain Sean Avery. Again money is in question but if he does come back into the fold, singing Bobby Holik to a 1 year deal may be a nice option. Having Holik play with Jagr or just slide into his natural 3rd line spot would allow Gomez to take over as a true # 1 center. The Panthers on the other hand can't continue to pull the old Rob NY plan. Asking for Dubinsky plus a 1st rounder and second rounder should be the area of conversation. An extra player or pick here and there could seal the deal, but the Panthers will have their pick of excess Rangers talent. Prucha,Callahan,Dawes,Korpikosky, and Hollweg will be competing for roster spots on next years team. They will also have a few players knocking on the door in camp. If Hugh Jessiman finally comes into his own, adding his large frame to this small roster is a must. As for the Draft picks, the Rangers will continue to compete and 20th seems to be the norm for the next decade ( I hope).
I'd hate to see Duby go, but Ranger/Panthers fans what gets this deal done? Let me hear about it. Leafs may just not have the goods to pull this one off sorry!
i really doubt the rangers would get rid of dubi...just a thougt...plus i dont think anyone/fan would want to get rid of dubi
I hear ya neither do I,but we're gonna have to give up something. Any suggestions?
As long as Dubinsky, Staal, Cherepanov and Sanguinetti stay as Rangers, sure. Which means, impossible!
I know as an Islanders fan you probably wont read into my opinion to much, but Bouwmeester is just what your team needs. There are talks about Redden coming to the Rangers, but I might blow that off as he really isn't as good as he is cracked up to be. Bouwmeester not only can play on the defensive side of the puck, but he is great on the power play and will make that first breakout pass to start a rush. The Rangers could use a player other than Gomez to skate the puck out of the zone and deep into the opponents zone. He will come at a heavy price though, as Florida knows they have leverage on everyone with him. In a market like New York, he could emerge into a perennial all-star. In my opinion:To NYR: Jay BouwmeesterTo FLA: Dubinsky, Tyutin, NYR 1st Rd Pick 2008--I wanted to say Dubinsky and Prucha, but I know that by taking Bouwmeester from Florida, there will be a glaring hole on defense. A player like Tyutin is a 3rd-4th type defensemen and would give the Panthers a little depth on defense with the departure of Bouwmeester. As for Dubinsky, he is completely necessary in this package as he is a young, promising center that Florida is looking for. He could really develop into a great player down there and the Rangers could look into signing a third-line center to fill in the void for Dubinsky (placing Gomez as the number 1 and Drury as the number 2). The first round pick, although hard to give up in this draft, is just mandatory and will be the icing on the cake. They might ask for a conditional third round pick, but that is peanuts when you are bringing in a player like Bouwmeester.
Wow now thats a Hockey mind NYIsles...great breakdown!. 5 years ago I would have given you the Potvin sux bizz. Now I'm just happy to talk hockey with hockey people.
I am a little surprised that Bouwmeester would command such a hefty price tag. I think he is a little bit overrated. This season he had 37 points and was a -5. To add alittle perspective, Joe Corvo had 48 points and was a 17. Roszival 38 points and was /-0. I would like to have JB, but I would never trade Dubinsky in the package. In my opinion, Dubi, Staal, and Hank are our only untouchables. I would much rather see them add Streit. He finished the season with 62 points and is a free agent. Plus, he can play the wing if need be.
You mean to tell me Florida wouldn't just take Christian Backman for Bouwmeester straight up?
i am thinking that you would have to give up sanguinetti and dubinsky to get j boa out of florida. he is a future number one defender who does it all. and those kind of guys command a huge price tag because they are so rare.
Dante, you are being a little unfair to Bouwmeester. First off, he doesn't get nearly half the publicity he would if he was in New York or Montreal. His numbers reflect a sub-par Florida team, and when you are logging as many minutes as he does with a sub-par team, you are bound to pay the price. Watching him play allows you to see he plays with poise, maturity, and patience in the defensive end and he is always willing to jump on the weak side as an offensive threat. He is exactly what the Rangers need. I hate to call youthful talent expendable, especially when they are coming along as Dubinsky is, but he is expendable if it means bringing in Bouwmeester. With Gomez set as the number one center and Drury as the number two, it won't be too hard to find a number three fit when he is gone. As a power-play point man especially is where you will see a tremendous upgrade from anyone on your current roster. As much as I hate seeing the Rangers be good, this is exactly what they need. Pair him with Staal and he will only help Staal blossom even further. Eventually when Sanguinetti comes up, you can put him with a more defensively sound player to allow him to make mistakes but not pay for them as much.Just an opinion..
I gotta go with Isles on this one...If tyhe Rangers bring him in signing an Orpik or Hainsey to stay back and cover for his mistakes gives them 2-3 nice pairs if Tyutin-Girardi stick.
I'll cry if the Rangers give up Dubinsky
Yeah, I think what would burn the most Pete,is that he Bleeds Blue like me and you! We'll see....
