It has been rumored for a while that Jaromir Jagr could be on the move from the Rangers. According to sources Pittsburgh was looking into #68 coming back to ride shotgun along Sid. This season JAGGS has looked dynamic at times and far more often, lost at others. One can sense that this is how fires started in Cap city with the foward coming to Broadway for Anson Carter. Carter vanished into dust while the Czek Captain would be part of a total Rangers overhaul. Sather added some of his friends to a lineup that had a nice blend of young and hungry talent. This past summer the Rangers took a major turn for the present and the future. Signing Chis Drury and Scotty Gomez for long term deals gives this Rangers team a different look than the one which put Broadway back on the map a few years ago. The team that Renny wants is a defensive transition team. Quite simple, cover your zone then take off with the puck. We have seen Scott Gomez do this for years in NJ, and Drury played it in Buffalo. Not only did they play this style but flourished in it. Gomez took heat early in the season for not meshing with Jagr but maybe it was Jagr who didn't mesh with Gomez. Gomez had no problem playing with Shannahan and now a ready and willing Jagr/Straka. Its Jagrs willingness that is the question that came up in Pitts/D.C. and here we go again. Only when hes happy is he willing. Straka his friend ( so Damn underrated) comes back and then he is able to adjust. Now Straka is hurt and we'll again have to baby sit J.J.s emotions.

Next year this Club will have many new faces. With the performance of Cherepanov and Anisimov the team will need to adopt a whole new line on their roster. Dubinsky has played well as of late while his wings continue to struggle. Only when he teamed up with Avery was he able to connect. The young center was the only player who actually looked like he could compete in the west, while the rest of the club faltered. He will only get better as his body is able to support his mind. What I mean is that he has alot of skill and wants to make plays but his balance still seems off. As he continues to progress I can't see why he cant become a Ryan Getzlaff type foward. He could become the power foward the team needs and that presence in front of the net that hasn't been there since Adam Graves ( his fav player). Moore and Dawes will get a solid look this time around with the big club. The deadline looms near and I just think there could be a little heat between Renny and Dawes. Dawes will get alot of icetime and if he channels his emotions into his game maybe we could see something.Moore needs time on the PP and should park his frame in front of the net and not move for a week!

The Oilers are a great team. I've always been partial to a club that 1, took the Cup away from "Team Offsides" ( the Islanders). and 2 handed the best player ever to us ( Ummmm # 11). The club is so much better than their record and if they played in the east they would be near the top. Edmontons "D" is solid even though they had injuries, but still cant score goals. Jagr was in the news talking about the wide open style of play in the west. # 68 excels in the open and they have a D core who can feed his transition. Jagr loved playing in Omsk and in the tundra, well why not in Alberta. Jagr is far from washed up there is still alot of toothpaste in there. It's just keeping him happy that's the problem. If the Rangers sent Peter Prucha his former roomate with him could he be happy. Marik Malik played well in Vancouver and is another friend of the Captain. He's a free agent at the end of the year and I'm not sure he'll be high in demand this summer. The Oilers could pick him up cheap again or just showcase himself. Brian Burke and the rest of the western teams that really havent seen his skill the last few years, could take a look . Maybe Washington wants to shed Nylanders contract back to the team where he really signed this summer.Gaining back expiring contracts from the Rangers could accomodate his salary next year. Plus with Prucah in the mix, the line of Nyander/JJ/Prucha could be reunited adding a # 1 line. Leaving Caps world, the Rangers could add Rozsival but subtracting a point shot from a shifty PP seems like a bad move. This is why the Rangers could add Dawes who could replace Raffe Torres or maybe a pick. Edmonton still gets to keep Sam Gagne ,a former Rangers son too.

The question still looms who do I want back from Kevin Lowe. Looking at players who could use a change of scene, I see Ales Hemsky right at the top. He reminds me of Afinogenov in Buffalo who played with Chris Drury . I just see Ales meshing with the new Rangers captain (#23) using some of his moves in the east. Scott Gomez then goes right back between Shanny where he played well. The Raners should also get back Joni Pitkanen and hi UFA future status. He killed the Rangers at Madison Square Garden when he was with Philly and he just might have an extra step in that building. He too could audition himself to a club with several UFA's at the end of the season. Rozsival coould be leaving in the summer and if Joni can add some juice to the PP it may be enough for the Rangers to let him go. Mix a 24 year old big body with a shot to a team already with Marc Staal,Tyutin,Girardi, and bargin vet Jason Strudwick.Paul Mara could leave as well adding over 2 million dollars to play with on D. Pitkanen gives the Rangers another top talent on the blueline and provides them with an insurance policy on Sanguinetti. Bobby can play in Hartford for a while and Ivan Baranaka could step up to the big show.

Teams have always asked Ny market clubs for the storm door in deals. It's not every day that a team gets a sure hall of famer who could change around a season. The Oilers need to give up some talent to get back a super star. The amount of reveune they could gain in the next two years alone makes the deal work. Jagr jerseys sell all around the world and puts some spotlight on an Edmonton team that hasn't had a superstar in a long time. I wonder how many goals he could get with Penner standing in front of the net. I wonder how many goals he could get with teams playing Souray and the Edmonton Blueline shot. But most of all I wonder how long it will take Gerry Cosbys (MSG) to have #83 Hemsky and #25 Pitkanen in the storefront window!

Oilers would get fleeced. Hemsky is the face of the franchise and Pitkanen is their future star defenseman. I highly doubt they'd trade either of them for Jagr, Prucha or Malik.Jagr has always said he'd love to play with Hemsky, and insisted they play together on the same line in the Olympics. Forget Prucha and Malik, I could see Jagr coming to Edmonton in exchange for prospects (seeing as how they have no picks left after Penner). Rangers could use more prospects considering they're close to the cap with Drury, Lundqvist and Gomez's contracts. I say Jagr to Edmonton for Schremp, Stoll and Staios.

red keep in mind this was written by a ranger dimwit whom expects one sided deals. the oil should just bend over and drop them for the rags why who are they ...jagr is in decline the tank is empty mainly because he has become a world class diva which makes you think he is perfect for the world stage at msg. rags suck

the only reason Jagr is interested in coming to Edmonton because he wants to play with fellow Czech Ales Hemsky why would they trade him??most likely Stoll would go first

Cmimbri your still pissed off beacause Edmonton Bent over and gave themsevles up in 1994. God its great seeing all those Louie Debrousk Banners hanging at Rexall Place. Well thats enough of that. As for the deal, you can't expect to get a superstar for nothing. You have to be prepared to offer a ligit player in return. Talking about Pitkanen, is Edmonton really going to sign off on a long term expensive deal.

In my opinion the 2 most untouchable players on the oilers are Hemsky and Pitkanen, everyone in edmonton have seen the difference between a lineup with and without them and how much of a effect they have on the success of the team.

They would never trade Hemsky he is a huge part of this team, he is young, and a steal with his contract.

Jagr is better than Hemsky BUT...Edmonton is re-building so think about this:Hemsky is 23 and signed until the end of 2011-12 season at a 4.1 cap hit.Jagr is 35 and has one year at $4.9 and then is a UFA... or his extention kicks in and he becomes a $8.36 mil cap hit and is a UFA after 2008-09 season. Why would Edmonton make this deal?

Anybody still think Jagr is a superstar???
January 9, 2008 4:00 PM ET | Delete
Is that why the Islanders Plan A is to shut him down everygame. Maybe thats a question for Brendan Witt.

And the Islanders have done extremely well against the Rangers this year I think. I can't remember the season record. But that wasn't the point. Is Jagr still considered a superstar? Shouldn't Gomez be that guy?? He got a ton of money this off season and he is being paid like a superstar. If Jagr is your superstar then why get rid of Nylander? Doesn't make sense to me

I hear ya ceez and yes the Islanders have done well, ur coach is still top 3 in the NHL. I'm not a blind Rangers fan, I respect talent. Plus if he really did the deed with Dominators old lady ..man thats funny. I think the Rangers felt Gomez would mesh well with JJ,giving him the center he needed . By signing Gomez ( Career year pace) they could take care of the future as well.
