As Sabres fans look at this year’s team after the offseason moves (or lack of them), most likely they will be disappointed. Fans have been very critical of the management’s moves over recent years. With a deeper look at the team, has the team improved? A quick comparison may not look better, but even with the lack of acquisitions, the Sabres may be set for a deep run into the playoffs.

The Sabres have bulked up and got tougher with the addition of Shaone Morrisonn. Morrisonn will add more grit to the defense that the Sabres have been missing. The Sabres also got tougher by moving Cody McCormick to the starting lineup after he played well in the Boston series when he was called up from Portland.

The Sabres lineup stayed similar to last season, but that may not be a bad thing. Many fans are forgetting that the Sabres did finish third place in the Eastern Conference and were just a win away from finishing in the 2nd seed.

The Sabres have gained more experience and getting the taste of the playoffs may benefit them this year. Players like Tyler Ennis and Tyler Myers will be expected to do much more this season.

When the playoffs start the regular season doesn’t matter anymore as we learned last year with the 7 and 8 seed making it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals last year. This proves that it shouldn’t matter where the Sabres finish at the end of the regular season as long as they make it to the postseason.

as miller goes, so go the sabres...i think the d should gel...got grit in morrison, rivet, and monty (#'s 2, 3, and 5 respectively)...got puck-movers in meyers and leopold (#'s 1 and 4)...#6 is wide-open...up front, bottom-six is solid...love the addition of neids...top-six is still questionable

#1 center and #1 rw look weak...filling either of those two with a top-three addition would take them pretty far...no reason why they shouldn't finish battling it out for the div. crown...no reason why they shouldn't get to the second round where a hot goalie and veteran leadership can take you even farther...

The sabres look decent to great when looking at the forwards, exceptional when looking at goaltending, however, poor to avg on defence, and why i do NOT think this is the sabre's year.

I wish we added a top 6 forward, but I like Leopold/Morrisson better than Lydman/Tallinder. Plus Nieds/McCormick instead of Mair and Lindy's man crush (Ellis) seems like an improved team from the one that won the division!!!!

I pray to God every day that this is our year! We need it and we deserve it. As for the roster. We might want to see how this team does as it is and we could always upgrade during the season. Nice job Kevin.

I start to take a deep look at this team and cringe after seeing Tim Connolly as our top 20 centerman. Finding a number 1 center for Vanek should be the organization's top priority this season, then Roy drops to his real place in the lineup as center #2.

this is so our yr. we improves our roster since last yr. sure a number one center would have been nice but i think if connolly, pommer, roy, vanek, hecht and ennis score like we think they will (which i think they will) we will be fighting for the cup. and plus we have miller. no other team has a goalie as good as ours. we r solid.

You have no idea about anything in hockey if you think the sabres will compete this year. They lost the second best player from last year over 1.1 million dollars (Kennedy), signed the same d men for the same price but lost chemistry and still suck balls up front. if they make the playoffs its a miracle. dont put any hope in this team until 2 years after lindy and regier are gone

I think it all depends on Miller, he is a streaky GT...one season he is great the next he is terrible. I think Miller would need to absolutely stand on his head for the Sabres to be even considered contenders. As a Leaf fan I have not hate for the Sabres, this is just my opinion.

the problem imo with saying it could be the sabres year imo is that they really did nothing substantial to improve to the point of playing with the big dogs in a 7 game series .. in addition .. is their secondary scoring deep enough for a long playoff run and is it fair to expect those types of numbers from miller again when the rest of his career is (while still good numbers) not even close to the ones he put up last year

@mike25grier: I really enjoyed how you thought kennedy was our 2nd best player on the team. That made my morning. While I don't think we have a Stanley Cup contender on our hand ( and I hope to be proved wrong ), I think we have a much better defensive force, and rookies like ennis and myers are only going to get better. Loosing kennedy won't have much effect. Fans can say what they want but once the season gets going he will be forgotten shortly after.

wow guys have some faith in ur team. if they can be just as good as last yr. with the addition of ennis every game and better dmen. we should be a contender. kinda the one noone thinks will be but then we swoop in and are one of the teams to beat. itll happen.
