Round 1 of the playoffs was pretty exciting.

Half of the eight series went to game 7.

Two teams faced elimination more than once to win their series.

One team came back from 3-0 to force an OT in game 7.

One team came back from 3-1 to win.

By comparison...so far at least...Round 2 is a snooze-fest.

One series is done...the Caps were zapped by the Bolts in 4 games. Games that seemed to get less climactic as the series went on. Bruce Boudreau may be looking for work as soon as today.

Two of the other three series are 3-0.

The Bruins and Sharks find themselves in the exact same position they did last year...against the same opponents.

A repeat miracle comeback by the Flyers seems highly unlikely. This year the Flyers seem devoid of the drive necessary to make such a monumental comeback. Call it a cup "runner up" hangover...or bad goaltending...or bad coaching...whatever it is, the Flyers looked done last night.

The Sharks have won 3 one goal games, with two of them going to OT. Even so, you get the feeling now that the series is over. The Sharks are younger and hungrier than the Wings. The Wings surely look to be heading into a transition period. With the high likelyhood of a second straight second round exit to the Sharks and so many of their core players above the age of 30, the Wings will almost certainly have to make some big changes in the near future.

If those series end 4-0 that will be 3 sweeps out of 4 second round series.

3 out of 4 NHL fans that watch games their home teams don't play in, disapprove of 3 sweeps in 4 series.

What we really want is for our teams to still be in the playoffs...but if we can't have that...

We want series that have an ebb and flow of momentum.

We want to hear the announcers tell us the teams "ate pizza" during the 2nd OT intermission of game 6.

We want teams that raise their level of competition each game until they both face elimination together.

We want game 7's that go to quadruple OT and span two days.

So much for what we want.

It's funny how things work out sometimes...

When Round 2 opened, the Canucks and Predators had about the least entertaining game 1 of any series.

Now, that series looks to be the best chance we have of fulfilling the excitement we expect in a best of seven round 2 series of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Here's hoping it lives up to the expectation.

Interesting thing is that 9 of the 14 games played in this round have been decided by one goal. 6 of those games went to OT. Just happens to be that the same team won every time in those close games. So there series have been boring, but the individual games - especially early in the round where the series wasn't yet decided - have been fairly good.

Well, who would have thought the Wings and Sharks would be the round 2 game 7? I certainly didn't expect it. I'm pulling for the Sharks...but it's gonna be tough unless they can deal with the pressure of game 7 at home.
