Help Me out Hockeybuzz Nation!
Seriously…a friend just came up and asked me that question. My first instinct is to say “no, of course not!” But when you hear the talking heads (Brett Hull, Barry Melrose) talk about us I begin to question it myself.
I don’t think of Hartnell as a dirty player…but ask a Sharks fan and you’ll get an earful.
Ask if they think Radulov is dirty and then your other ear is full too! (but here is a guy that has played his entire career including his time as a junior player and NEVER got suspended!)
I have been proud of the way our team has not backed down this year. Last year in the playoffs we were pushed around and taken advantage of. No one was digging for the pucks, no one was hitting and we lost in five.
So help me out…are the Nashville Predators a dirty team?
(note...I am really looking for some objective opinions on this...Pred and Shark fans have a strong opinion on this but how about some of you other fans?)
Jordin Tootoo is no angel either.
I think Hartnell's knee to Cheechoo was dirty and he got the deserved punishment for it. End of story. I think Radulov made a bonehead play and a mistake but I would not consider him a dirty player. Again, he got what he deserved. End of story. Tootoo walks more of the line of the dirty player. But none of these guys, to my way of thinking, has crossed into "Dirty Player" territory such as someone like Claude Lemieux, who was well known for being a cheapshot artist. That little f'er was dirty.I think the Preds need to settle down and play smart. You can play hard-nosed and physically intimidating in an intelligent fashion. So far they've crossed the line on a couple occasions but I would not label them as dirty.
Great comments Zholtok and ruutuox...I think if all this talk was about a hit that Tootoo laid it would be different. He has shown that he likes to play rough but this is about Hartnell and Radulov (who has NEVER been suspended!).
I do not believe (from what I have seen) that Hartnell and Radulov are "dirty players". I would compare the incidents to one that happened during the Blues/Preds last meeting (Lee Stempniak hitting Forsberg's foot). While no one wants to see that kind of play, that doesn't make that particular player "dirty". I believe that I tried to make that point to Predators' fans who were calling Lee Stempniak a THUG! Even the most elite players, on occassion, make questionable plays.
